how do you tolerate long rides

All I can add is that you should never ever ever buy a Ducati 999. Its like agonizing on the throttle wrist. Makes the FZ6R feel like a Cadillac. You have to break your body in for a few weeks just to get an hour out of it. About the time in your life you can afford an exotic sport bike from Italy youre too old to ride it:D

Situps and pushups, advil, spring-loaded handgipper exercisers...hmmm cant think of anything else at the moment...:iconbeer:

I agree with most folks here. Try to relax your posture and try to enjoy the ride. That will disappear with time when you get more comfortable. Ride a lot, practice a lot and you will gain confidence in your machine. In time you will be more in tune with your bike, and that's when you loosen up on your death grip.
Getting the gel grips also helped me as well as choosing a more padded glove. Be patient, it'll be gone soon enough. Keep riding and just enjoy it.

Throttle Rocker

I'm going to recommend the Throttle Rocker as well. It's a $15 device which simply works. Used it for many 10+ hour riding days. Because you don't need to squeeze the throttle with it, it eliminates both tingling and cramping.

That is great news if the FZ6 windshield is the same bolt pattern as our FZ6R. I would get the tallest and if necessary just cut it down incrementally if I had to.

And to go along with this, try not to hold yourself up with your hands and arms, use your abs and legs instead. And you don't need a grip on the bars like your trying to break them in half, relax.

I make minor adjustments while on the bike & not staying too long in one position. Stay loose. I also find my body endurance builds up over time. When sled season starts my thumb aches soooo bad. By the end of the season, I can ride all day braaaap.

The link for this windscreen is for an FZ6. It will not fit the FZ6. It has a different bolt pattern. These folks are working on a taller screen for our FZ6R. If they can work everything out with the design it will be available in the very near future. I spoke to the designer today and I will post more info when I find out after testing has been done.

PUIG Touring Screens for Yamaha FZ6R 2009

Replacement screens For the bike model Yamaha FZ6R 2009 | Puig

PUIG Touring Screen

For long distance rides, PUIG introduces the Touring series to minimize the windblast against the rider. These screens raise the windblast in several centimiters allowing the rider to keep a more comfortable position riding the motorcycle and a shaded part on the lower section of the screen to cover cables behind the speedometer.*

just ordered this through my dealer, cost $150. a bit steep I know but I hope it will provide me the needed wind blockage. The wind also adds to fatigue. I'll post pics as well as my review when I get it. I tried to chop off my standard windsceen as others did here. The wind noise was reduced. A lot less turbulent wind, however the wind blasts to my body is now increased 50 times greater. Now I really have to fight the wind and really crouch down low and hug my gas tank to get more aerodynamic.

One of the things that has helped me to learn to relax has been the high winds that we get here.

Today seemed to be particularly bad for me, two examples: I was in long line of traffic and was pushed form inside to the outside of the lane by a wind gust, I was doing about 4 mph at the time. Also today doing 65 into a 30 mph head wind laying on the tank hands clamped but relaxed, think Karate fist, when a sudden wind gust dropped me to 40, felt like I'd hit a soft wall.

After a few times of riding in gusts up to 40 mph and in gusting head winds, tail winds, cross winds, and quartering winds you kind of learn to relax when the winds are calm or nearly calm.

Today the wife asked if I had had fun riding home I said it was great fun. She said sure it was I can tell by the way your hands are shaking.

But it was fun.

As my flight instructor once said "Welcome to Kansas, tornado rides are free".
