The Green Lantern is gay? DC Comics remints sexuality of original superhero Alan Scott | NJ.com

Nothing against homosexuals at all. Have a couple friends that are gay, but being a father I don't think kids should be exposed to that through comics. Kids love and copy super heroes.

I imagine a little 10 year old coming ask his father. "daddy, why is green lantern kissing another man in the magazine? Can I do the same with my friends at school?" Big no no in my opinion.

Let the bash begins.

Sheldon is going to have a fit...

There is interview after interview w/ gay people saying they knew it at a young age. (Just saw a link where Neil Patrick Harris told Oprah he knew around 6 or 7)

Maybe having something as mainstream as a comic book will make it easier for kids to express the differences they're feeling. And with any luck it will tame the stigma a bit and some of the bullying going on will taper off.

Yes, kids imitate comics, but isn't it only stuff they think is cool? Like attempting to fly like Superman? So if a kid doesn't find the idea of kissing another boy (or girl as the case may be) something they are drawn to, they probably aren't going to do it one way or the other.

If my daughter came up at 10 and asked about if it was ok to kiss another girl, I'd probably just tell her at that age she really doesn't need to be kissing anyone (other than family). And probably just make sure she knows that no one should kiss anyone unless both people want to. I'd be more interested in her knowing that no one can force it on her, nor her on anyone else, regardless of gender.

ETA: No bashing intended, hopefully it didn't come off that way.

WARNING THIS IS A RANT....

What is this world coming too? That's just wrong and discussing. Just proof that this world is going to $hit. It's not right period! It was wrong back in the day, it's still wrong today. Just because sociality says it's OK doesn't mean it's right. I agree, people have the right to be gay, sure go have at it... But my God don't make a comic book geared towards kids saying it's ok!!!! WTF! No wonder why our kids are growing up on Psych meds now days...

Waiting for the day one comes out to say child porn or molestation is OK, "because people have the right to choose and do what they want." Right? I'm done!

Here is my take on all these subjects that are taboo......

How many people are Gay in the USA? Best estimate is 4 million.....with a total population of 311,591,917, not including illegal aliens (we can use them as a fudge factor, no pun intended). This means 1.28% of the USA is gay. lets round that up to the closeted individuals and call it a whopping 2%....

So the comic book's demographic is what? 6 to 15 year old boys? If we guess that the gay percentage is 1/2 male and 1/2 female then I wonder what percentage of that meets the demographic?

Now I think you are starting to see the point. Other than collectors going out and buying what might turn out to be a valuable collector's edition of Green Lantern coming out of the closet, there is not enough people that will buy the comic books to make it worth printing them. Green lantern was never a big seller to begin with so I see the end of Green lantern in comic book form.

Did you all notice it wasn't a big seller like Superman or Spiderman, Batman, Flash, Hawkman or The Silver Surfer? They could have made Wonder Woman a Lesbian and Aquaman gay but they have too large an audience and revenue.

It's all for show......since Hollywood is probably 10% or more gay.....

NERD ALERT:

Ryan Reynolds played Hal Jordan, a different Green Lantern. There's more than one.

I dare Hollywood to make the movie with a Gay Green Lantern......
biggest money loser ever produced.....

Would any of you guys go pay to see it?........nuff said.......

Some people's opinion is that its bad/wrong. The publishers and writer's opinion seems to be that it isn't.

They have the right to print it, other's have the right to boycott buying/reading it.

Seems fair to me.

And it very well could just be a type of publicity stunt. It's already got tons of people who normally wouldn't care about comics talking about them. Success.

From my perspective, there isn't any good or bad, right or wrong in Amerika these days. It's all about the "Benjamins" and money talks, BS walks.
We can all talk about Green Lantern all we want but I am willing to bet that it's a commercial failure. All the publicity in the world won't add to DC comics bottom line where a gay Green Lantern is concerned. It might be a success in the area of "talking points" but what do you do with a comic book hero that is a failure commercially?

No I wouldn't, but mostly because I don't pay to go see many movies at all, and comic ones don't top my list.

By that same token, I didn't pay to see Brokeback Mountain either, it still did well from what I understand.

A RANT FROM THE OTHER SIDE OF THE TRACKS.

Wow, just wow... Who cares if they made a comic book character gay?

"I don't mind if you're gay, just don't go shoving it in mine/my children's face."

That's called intolerance, which I find ironic considering that our ancestors founded this country to avoid intolerance, mainly religious prosecution.

"My God don't make a comic book geared towards gays!!!"

Then yours is a God of intolerance and hatred. Glad he ain't mine. Try following everything *else* the Bible says we should and shouldn't do. I always love hearing people go on and on about obeying the Bible to a *T* when really all you do is pick and choose what you want to believe. Is yours the same God in whose name billions have been murdered and killed throughout history? Be careful when claiming such things...

"I just don't want your deviant lifestyle portrayed as a "brave choice." "

You're right. Fighting persecution isn't brave. It's downright heroic. Amazing that they made a superhero gay then, isn't it?

"Waiting for the day one comes out to say child porn or molestation is OK, "because people have the right to choose and do what they want." Right? I'm done"

This is actually the most disgusting thing I've read so far. As someone who's actually *been* molested before, I can honestly say that you can't even BEGIN to associate it with being gay. I just got married over this past weekend. To my wife. (A woman, in case that wasn't obvious enough LoL) Ta Da! I wasn't bitten by the "gay bug". Not ONLY that, but being gay is a choice between people, not a horrible crime of violence and sexuality inflicted on another without their consent.

Either way, I know this is an open forum, and everyone's entitled to theirs, which is way I wrote mine.

God is Love. That is all.

Ugh, I am so sick of the gay culture being shoved in my and everybody else's face! I don't go shoving my heterosexualness in their faces!! Ahhhh, but now maybe I will.....

I have gay friends who are awesome but my goodness some people in society just feel the NEED to get it involved in every single aspect of everyones life for some reason. We get it, your gay, CONGRATS! I'm straight! Do I get any sort of acknowledgement or gratification for that?! No??? Well....... shucks.

By the way, I'm not a gay basher. I wish I had a Jack (From Will and Grace) for my very own!! LoL. Seriously.

I watched it at home and was uncomfortable with the subject matter but I believe most people went to see it because of the actors, Jake Gyllenhaal, Heath Ledger as I did.

Who could play the movie version?
John Travolta?

Oh boy... we should just drop the subject. No one wins when it comes to discussing views on politics, sports, religion, and now homosexuality. :surrender::surrender::surrender:

To each their own.

Truth. Someone always ends up getting their feelings hurt.
