Just some words of caution to those out there who don't wear enough gear.
My buddy (who I usually go riding with, glad I didn't this time) was out with some friends last weekend. They were just riding around town, trying to catch a glimpse or two of the elusive "hotties" who start to surface around this time of year wearing a bit less clothing than during the winter months. I am however in the Pacific Northwest and we have a very short summer compared to southern states and such.
My buddy has an '05 GSXR600 and his friend has an '11 (I think) GSXR750, his other friends have very nice fast sport bikes too. One in particular was a '97 GSXR600 that was modded and in great shape and fit right in with the newer models
Some really cool machines!
He was falling behind and when most of the group stopped to wait up and took off their helmets here come the '97 around a tight blind corner sliding on the ground along with it's rider. He had clipped a car going the other way, not sure if the car came over the line or if he did. But his bike was beat up pretty bad. He has a couple of broken ribs now and a broken pelvis bone. The worst looking though was the compound fracture of his ankle (you know bone sticking out of the skin.) Pretty bad and I'm guessing if it was his fault he'll have $10,000 worth of coverage for the BMW he hit, just had to be a beemer!!
See these sport bike are ridiculously expensive to insure unless you only buy basic liability coverage, 25/50/10. Medical would have been a lot more on the policy so I'm guessing he didn't have it, and the Comprehensive/Collision could have been a boat load so I'm guessing his bike will not be fixed unless he's very wealthy (ambulance/hospital bill must be $$$$$) and not to mention he won't be riding for the rest of the summer that is JUST starting! If he had just had some good boots at least he would be in a lot better place, standing wise, of course not sure if he could have avoided the broken pelvis even with full gear, maybe.
I'd post pics but I'm sure he doesn't want his goof up all over the internet.
So gear up people:thumbup: and safe riding this summer and all other times of the year!
