I swap ky springs for the .95 racetec. How much preload should I use? Bone stock the bike as 0.680, I put .730 (+0.050)

I can feel the front end much stiffer. Seems to me like I could remove some preload for sure.

Not sure.. I should have measure the front ride height first... I'll ask the wife to help me out to measure the droop front and rear first (sag)

Anyone that as done this mod before... feel free to give me some input

Here's some numbers...

As I rode back home...

Front sag: 35mm
Rear sag : 25mm (#7)

Change rear spring perch setting to

Rear sag @ #4: 40mm
Rear sag @ #5: 35mm

So now I got my sag where I wanted. From what I found online, 30-35mm is a good start for a street bike.

I might try to ride later but maybe the rear end was sitting a bit high and result in the feeling that I was riding on the front wheel a bit much. The front end was very light too, like not enough trail... front end still drop 10mm to make thing worst.

What I would like is a right height reference with the bike standing up, no rider sitting on the bike just to give me something to start with.

Oh ya, I ordered the wrong front tire too... lower profile. I need to lift the front end a bit.

I've got 25mm sag front and back, with the rear preload at 5. This is what I wanted for the track. I drop the rear to 4 if I'm going on a long ride.

Ya, I had the rear spring all the way to #7 from riding 2 up last time and forgot to put it back to #5.

My biggest issue I think is the 120/60-17 instead of 120/70-17. I ordered the wrong tire by mistake. From looking around the front ride height is 12mm lower, so I need to raise the front ride height a bit (lower the fork in the triple three) I'm at 10mm now... I'll put it back to zero. I can feel i have too much rake now... feel like I ride on the front wheel only! LOL funny feeling when I turn too.

Well, all good now. Only one step up in spring rate but quite a change in handling. I don't have anywhere to ride hard around here but I can tell a good difference. The front end feel planted and I can feel the road better... more feedback. Still not crazy about the 120/60 but will deal with it for now. Nothing wrong but does feel much different. That would be a good track setup with this tire I think. Before i had to muscle the bike to turn. Now I look in the corner and the bike just lean... and stay there. Like no more wobble and struggle to hold it there. When I want to go back up... a little pressure on the handlebar and whops! Back up! I just need to get use to it I guess...

So now I'm at #5 rear and zero drop at the front with the 120/60 ZR17 tire.

The 60 series tires are stinkers. They are not a trianglated as a 70 so the response is slower.

Sport Rider has an outstanding article on setting sag, not hard but a two person job. Just Google it, you'll find it

If there is too much preload in the fork just cut the spacer shorter. I use PVC pipe so it cuts easily with a pipe cutter.

The RT set up is very nice. I've installed two kits in the last year. Very good results and easy to do.

The only problem? Now you'll really hate the OEM shock!

Ya, I spend a fair amount of $$$ lately. So as sonn as I get some spare change back I will chage the tire for a 70.

I did a littoe research in sag and 35 seems ok for street riding. My wife help me out and pure luck... 1 3/8" (35mm enough) preload on the front. Then the back at #5 end up at 35mm too.

Other than the weird feel of the tire the bike feel pretty solid. You are right... next ride I mod the suspension first!
