Oh man... I think I'm a bit late for a suggestion on riding jacket. But I'll go for it anyways.
I'm in AZ as well and I highly recommend getting a mesh jacket. With the weather getting up to low to mid 110's in the summer, you can't beat the ventilation that a mesh provides. I currently ride with a "Speed and Strength" Moment of Truth Mesh Jacket that comes with a removable weather proof liner that's great for keeping me warm in the winter (I actually sweat in it sometimes because it gets so warm) and dry in the rain. As for safety. I've laid down the bike once while wearing the jacket and walked away with nothing more than a sore back and bruised butt-cheek :zombiescraped knees as well, but that's from wearing plain jeans). So I'm confident in the product.:thumbup: Hope this helps!
