Any thoughts on a bigger rear tire

Im wanting to go with a 180 rear tire, any thoughts on on whether this will fit on the stock wheel or will there have to be some modding done to fit a r6 rim onto the bike. Just wanted to see everybodys thoughts. Thanks!!!

what benifits come from putting on a bigger tire other then being harder to turn in?

wouldnt it throw the balence/handling off?

racetech suspension upgrade would prolly be much better investment, unless its just for looks...then nvm me, haha

More mass and weight, swingarm adjustment, handling downgrade,...........but it would look closer to a literbike, which it is not........Nah. I'd keep it quick but somebody was able to go one size larger w/stock set up, 170 I think?

I would have to say that a wider tire on this bike would look better but honestly would just hurt the bike. It really isn't powered enough to handle that tire.

power and handling is not an issue, just really like the looks, did somebody say that the yamaha fz6r race bike had a 180 on it. i wonder if they had to mount a wider r6 rim to be able to fit a 180 tire???

My dealership told me that I could put a 170 mine no problem. So I ordered one and I should have it on the bike towards the end of the week.

Here are the 17" size specs for the rims. Looks like a 170 is doable but a 180 would require a new wheel and some modifications.

So the Shinko's are sweet so far. I have about 50 miles on them. Front is the same size as stock and rear is a 170. Still have 50 miles home tonight. The tire really doesnt look much different. I will try to take some pics and throw them up later in the week.

So after a good bit of riding today and tonight I am very happy with the Shinkos and the decision to go up to a 170. Bike handles great and has a ton of grip. Much more than the b21's that were on it from stock.

Is the tire taller or just wider? Cause I could probably put a wider tire on the rear when it comes time for that change on my bike. How about a wider tire for the front?

From what I was told the other day, if you go one step wider, you go one smaller on the wall. So stock we're 160/60. If you go wider, you should go 170/55. That will keep the geometry the same and keep the rear from raising.

The overall diameter of a 170/60 is a 2% larger than stock, while a 170/55 is about 1% smaller. No big deal either way.

My Shinkos are 170/60's with no problem. I would not go larger in the front. Sounds like a handling nightmare to me. I stayed with the stock size in the front.

I put on a 170 bridgestone battleax b-021 tire in March. I think it looks much wider than the stock size tire. I dont ride hard so I have not noticed the performance difference. I just got it for the looks.

After a great hard ride today I would say I can take turns harder with the 170/60. The grip is great. I'm very happy with my decision to go bigger.
