6D Helmets

So I've heard about this new company 6D making offroad helmets that are very different in the way that their EPS is made. I'm putting the link below to their website so you can read the details of their design. It's brilliant IMO. I noticed earlier this year that the Geico Honda 250 riders in supercross have all been wearing them. Last night at the Houston round of supercross, Zach Bell had one of the most horrific crashes I've ever seen hitting his head on the hard as rock clay surface and didn't even have the slightest concussion.

After reading about these helmets and seeing them in action, as soon as a street version is available (which I've read is in the works) I will be buying one, no questions asked. I really hope other manufacturers take their lead and start looking at their designs. The article I read said that the guy who started the company actually hopes the other companies do look into this design. He made a great point. Other than different venting, shell materials, shapes, etc... basic helmet design hasn't changed in 50 years.

Yea at one point I owned the entire HJC Clx lineup.You'll never know how hard you hit a branch, so I just replaced them once they had scuffs on all sides.

I never really tested one of them until I owned the Clx4.I was doing a donut on my banshee at night and caught a rock or something.I couldn't fall asleep for 3 nights after that.It wasn't a very fast accident, but I still hit hard enough that my glasses were ejected out of my helmet.I never found them.I had to drive home blind, with a concussion lol.

Not that im bashing HJC or anything.My S&S has similar quality, but hopefully the air liner cushions a tiny bit more or something.

Thanks for the heads up Jon.I've seen those helmets in a magazine or something.But I haven't been off roading much lately, so I didn't give them much time.

I hadn't really paid a lot of attention to them until I read an article online. When I recognized the logo on the Geico boys helmets I started researching some more. This is the article I found. Radical new motorcycle helmet hitting the road next year | Fox News

Helmets are something I don't think should ever be skimped on. I buy the best I can afford and that fits my head properly. Ive been able to get some high end helmets for killer deals by buying close outs from the year before. My RS-1 was $260 when I got it by getting the 2011 scheme instead of $400. I was seriously looking into getting a new Star since I do love my Bell helmet. But after seeing these things, even if the price is in the $800 range like the highest end Arais and like their off road ones are now, it's worth it to me. I'll do whatever I need to get one when its available as long as their shape will fit me properly. I'm not due for a new helmet for a year at least so I have time. My wife is due for a new helmet now and I'm debating on what to do. She bought herself a cheep HJC that was already a year old (by manufacture date) when I first got my bike. I wasn't happy about what she bought. I'm not letting her skimp this time. But I don't know if I want to wait until this helmet comes out or get her the Shoei Quest that she tried on the other day and liked.

hmmm, isn't this a bit of interesting information here.

It says they only have a large MX helmet until the summer of 2013.If a sizing chart is still a few months away, then street helmets could still be a few years away.

I'd use the customer service page for a peace of mind, then order the Quest in a week if you haven't received a positive response.
