I'm curious why fz6r is so heavy? when ninja 650 is only 170-180kg?
mine is 2009. Are next versions 210 kg too?
Inline twin vs inline 4 =extra bits in the engine, longer shafts, wider motor
Steel frame etc etc

Hey Perdurable. How well did that ballistic battery hold up? Still alive? Im just wondering which is the better option ballistic or antigravity. I've used Braille for my race boat in the past but their ungodly expensive and you gotta make sure u maintain them. Otherwise you can easily waste a ton of money. :( May have happened once or twice...

This topic interests me the most.... That beshlugiduh frame! I wonder how much it would cost to bend a lighter alloy one... like you would find... on any... other bike
Also, I hear carbon fiber tanks can be worth the money for street since they don't break on potholes like CF rims or frames.
The battery is also a big one that's already been mentioned.
Other than that, just the standard stuff like exhaust... that frame tho, that's where the weight is, and it's top heavy weight, too.

At that point, you're way better off buying an R6. I've thought of trying to have a rear swingarm made.... Its just not worth it. lol

That's the difference between us; you have stuff made, I make stuff.

Is it expensive? sure, but it's what I enjoy doing.

o_O I'm all about "making" stuff within reason that makes sense, and understand the pride in "built not bought." If you have the money and time to waste, then go for it.

I dont have the access to a machine shop, the time to take away from my professional work schedule, and also away from my personal life when I have a working machine that has more power than most people will "need."

If you were to reduce the weight significantly, however, I would think there would be a point where the power to weight ratio would affect the power transfer to the ground and it may be necessary to then go with a larger rear tire. I dont know if it's possible to make the fz's motor THAT strong, while also making the bike THAT light. one of the highlights of the fz IS its agility for being a heavier/ underpowered bike, thanks to thank pizza cutter on the rear, so fattening up the rear IS going to sacrifice agility and will also slightly raise the COG when tipped over in a lean. just means you gotta hang off more ;)

I guess what drives my opinion is putting in maximum effort for minimal gain. As stated above though, if you have the time, money, access, and will... go for it...

That's cool, all I'm saying is I don't "make stuff within reason" but rather "making stuff is my reason" I love to ride, but I spend way more time in the garage (by garage, I mean driveway, cause I got a house with a family room... we all make mistakes lol)

OFC I do require function to be behind my craft (so I don't just glue a bunch of scrap metal bits to a bike and call it art) so the point on power transfer is a thing to take into consideration. That being said, when the FZ6(non-r) went from steel to aluminum the savings were "only" 11lbs (I use quotes cause I understand that is significant, but when you consider that you can save like 8 just changing the battery, it's relative significance drops it down on the priority list)

There's a lot to think about and tinker with for me, which is what I love. I'm super tired right now but there's tons of plans and schemes I've got in my head but I'm super tired right now so I'm a bit sluggish in the memory department, but I appreciate your feedback and would love to keep bouncing ideas off you, plus you seem like the kind of guy that'll keep me from doing anything so hair-brained that I end up destroying the bike lol I could use a guy like you on the team*

*doesn't actually have team

Lol I've got a shed... I feel your pain... The dogs just HAD to have a fenced in yard, but dad couldnt get a friggin garage... :shakehead:

I didn't realize that folks had gotten the "r" to the limits of the upper 80's and low 90's in the power department. I reached out to Scott T on here to see if he had seen any significant tire wear since adding all of his upgrades and he stated no more than normal, so I wonder where THAT limit lies. Speaking relatively, i know the moto3 class bikes have 120 rear rubber (but only 35 HP) and I'm sure they would outrun a stock fizzer all day.

I'm completely there with you on the scheming and planning side... I'd love to be able to fit an 04 R6 fairing to the front of our bike and drop the clip ons under the tree. I'd think this, combined with the Valter Moto rear sets would really put you in a better "dancing" position on the bike.

Good info on the battery.. I think mine is beginning to weaken. The aforementioned shed is not exactly climate controlled and all efforts to build a ramp to store in the "gun/ bike" room so far have been thwarted. ;)

Unfortunately, when reading about the cam swap, the timing advance, and then adding in the "normal" power mods (which I have none) I had a depressing realization for my upcoming track day and ultimate goals for this bike - its a stock bike with stickers on it. :shakehead:
But ultimately thats ok. My wife is interested in going to track days depending on how I do/ and like them (Hoping to hit 2 at least this summer) and I think it would be a great bike for her to ride at the track, or a great bike for us to sell and get her an R3 lol. Hopefully by then I'll be on an actual R6 dedicated track bike, and will have a dedicated street bike.

All these lofty plans and looking ahead though dont normally pan out the way we want... lol

I like the R6, my only beef with it is that it doesn't like me (makes my nuts smell like burnt hair) and I want to have children in the future.

I have noticed a lot of complaints about weight and power on the FZ6R. So here is a list of simple and not so simple mods to reduce weight and increase power. My bike is now around 451lbs with a full tank and that's still heavy but stock wet weight is 467lbs(470CA). Before mods we weighed almost 1/3 a ton together now nearly 30lbs under stock is a good 50+lbs under 1/3 a ton!!!

NOTICE: I still need the weights of these items
After: Full TBR exhaust system
Stock and After: Street Fighter Mod
After: Fender Elim kit
Stock and After: Mirror Replacement
Stock and After: Flushmounts
and anything else you can see that i didn't put on the list TY GUYS!!!

So without further ado:
Confirmed Stock and Aftermarket Weights = ":D"
Confirmed Stock Weights only = "**"
Unconfirmed Weights = "XX"

Stock Wet Weight = 467Lbs (470CA)
**#1----10lbs----TBR C/F Exhaust, A/F replacement, add PCV [+5HP +4ft/lbs +Coolness] Stock=18.4lbs
XX#2----10lbs----Street Fighter
:D#3----7.69lbs---Replace the Stock battery [+CCamps]
:D#4----3.25lbs---Remove Grab Bar [May Smash Tail in a Wreck]
**#5----3lbs-----Fender Eliminator + Inter-graded tail light [+Coolness] Stock=3.5lbs
:D#6----2.19lbs---Replace stock handlebars with some Apex Clip on Bars [+ Adjust-ability]
:D#7----2.1lbs----Remove your Tool Bag [-Field Fixable]
XX#8----2lbs-----Replace stock mirrors with pig spotters or bar ends [-Rear Vision]
:D#9----1.37lbs--Remove the stock bar ends [-Drop Protection]
:D#10---1.19lbs--Remove injection pump assembly and hosing installed Block off Plates [+Emissions]
XX#11--1lbs-----Smaller Aftermarket Sprockets [Faster Sprocket wear]
XX#12--1lbs-----Flush Mount blinkers [-Intention Visibility]
:D#13---.38lbs---Replace rear seat with a seat cowl and remove most of the metal from it[PITA]
:D#14---.38lbs---Replace Stock Kickstand with adjustable aluminum one [-durability]
:D#15---.1lbs----Remove Stock Front Reflectors [- Night Visibility]

End Wet Weight Max = 429.35Lbs SF= 419.35Lbs
Max -37.65Lbs Total Estimated Reduction without Street Fighter
Max -47.65Lbs Total Estimated Reduction with Street Fighter

My Current bike weight with 25-28lbs of fuel(aka full tank):
F238.8lbs+R213=451.8lbs

Some Weight Saving tips:
-Fuel weighs 6.1lbs per Gallon, a full tank (4.6 gallons) weights 28lbs, even if you only put 3 gallons in your bike that saves nearly 9lbs!!!
-You basically gain 1hp for every 8lbs you/your bike lose
-Diet Diet Diet!!! Your weight is your bikes weight!!!
-Make sure your fluids are not high...or low!!!!
-Take a **** before you ride....seriously!! "Each day, on average, people produce 1 ounce of poop for each 10 pounds of their body weight." so for a 200lb person that's 1-2lbs a day =P

PLEASE POST MORE WEIGHTS!!!
Anytime you replace something on your bike please post the weight of the original part and then the weight of the replacement part to add to the weight reduction chart
(Please post pictures of the part on the scale)
(Please weigh with a lbs/oz fish scale accurate down to the oz)

EDIT:
I recently made a Excel spread sheet that will calculate HP/Weight/HP:LB ratios for you =) called Perdurables FZ6R Weight Calc some pictures attached i attached it in a zip file to this thread. Keep and eye out for updates!!!

***Current Version 2.0
Fender eliminator shaved 4.7lbs off my bike

I don't have a picture of the weight of these parts but....... I replaced both left and right footrests. These things weigh 4 lbs each and replaced them with rearsets from a 2005 R6 (each one weighing just 1 lbs.). I thought that was pretty good.

Got a write-up on how you did that? Did it change where your feet are much? If it did, did you swap out handlebars to compensate for the change in your footing? Thanks!
