New guy: Do I need a tankring on my bike?

Hello everyone, I just bought my fz6r and would like to take off the tank handle grip for the passenger. Do I need to buy another tankring to replace it? Or is it safe to just leave it without a ring?

I'm really just looking for a yes or no answer or even a quick link to buy a slip without the mount.

It's a handle grip for the passenger. But gets in the way when I lean forward and feels more dangerous if I were to crash.

Why don't you just find installation instructions for the handle and see if you remove anything to install it? Anything that was removed will need to be replaced.

I'm guessing the reason you're not getting any answers is because no one has one of these handles, so no one has an answer.

its a handle designed to give the passanger something to hold on to(other than the driver) so that when you jam on the brakes or accelerate hard they are not pushing or pulling on you...

The idea is perfect...the implementation... IN M OPINION... sux....

To answer the OP I have no idea...I am guessing there were shorter bolts around the gas cap originally...I am guessing those would have to be replaced... but it is a guess...

I am also unfamiliar with them. I was taught that the pillion rider's arms go around the rider and their hands go on the tank to keep their weight off the rider.

Also more easily said than done. Honestly, I think a rider simply shouldn't be riding aggressively with a pillion.

That being said, I have no idea about the removal of your tank ring. I'd say pull the screws, pull the ring and see if the screws are too long to go back in. Since they are included, I'd guess they are a different length than the original screws.

If you don't have them, then I'd just leave the thing on and order some screws.

you definitley need a new tank ring. and while you are at it, make sure you pick up a ne piston gasket for the rear seat as well. :zombie:

just take it off, it weighs to much

I installed one on my r6. All you need are new shorter bolts to replace the ones on there now.

Yeah the screws are too long. I'll have to buy shorter ones. Why a piston gasket for rear seat? It could have been replaced already. I bought the bike used and it was already modified. Here's a pic if that helps to identify.

Talk to your local dealer...a lot of them have stock of those bolts if you ask...
