Bike stalled and won't F'n start!!!

Okay, so I took the bike to work for the first time this year (high of 82 today). I have taken the bike out 3 times relatively recently, but always around 10 miles and relatively quick runs. My commute is 20 miles one way. Today coming home the highway ended up getting shut down due to severe and fatal accident and I spent 2 1/2 hours in stop and stop and go traffic. When I finally got off the highway and moved normally when I started to slow for a traffic light I heard a pop and the bike died. I tried restarting, but doesn't seem to be getting fuel. It cranks, but doesn't try to fire up and if I roll the throttle it sounds like a pop or gurgle from the front of bike. I did add a gas cap a little while back and found it doesn't vent properly even though it says it's vented. When I opened the cap, it was under a lot of pressure (2.5 hours of stop and go traffic). I got my daughter to bring my truck and her fiance so that I could load on the truck and get her home. She's on the tender now since battery was over worked trying to start her back up. Nothing else seems out of the ordinary. I got home 4 hours after I left work so no time to mess with the bike yet. I want to get the tank up and check everything under there. I'm wondering if a quick connect came off or something got f'd in the throttle bodies. Any thoughts or suggestions. My brain is so fried, literally.

Not sure, if I get time and battery is recharged enough I may mess with it. I wanna lift tank before anything to make sure everything is connected and looks fine.

Initially, I also thought vapor lock, but I've ridden in traffic when it was 118 degrees and the bike temp went up to 238... no problems with the bike.

I'm wondering if the pressure that built up in the tank damaged the fuel pump??

If the bike is acting fuel starved and the fuse isn't blown, then I might focus my attention on the fuel pump.

There is an off chance that the fuel lines were damaged and split under pressure, but you would probably see fuel leaking...

Many years ago I had a car with a mechanical fuel pump and carburetor. The car would stall (at red lights) because it was fuel starved. I pulled off the pump and it looked good and first glance, but upon a closer inspection there was a small tear in a rubber diaphragm, which reduced the amount of fuel being supplied to the carburetor. I replaced the fuel pump and problem was solved...

My thinking is there are probably small rubber diaphragms and gaskets inside the fuel pump that may have been damaged by the pressure that built up in the fuel tank.

I think there is a way to pressure test the fuel pump on the FZ6R to confirm it is supplying enough fuel.

Once you get the tank off, I think you should be able to access the health of the fuel pump.

Unfortunately, the fuel pump appears to be a rather pricey part, unlike my old car where the fuel pump was $20.

Best of luck... fingers crossed its NOT the fuel pump and just a fuel line or something simple.

You're not kidding, $324 for a fuel pump off bikebandit.com which is usually very reasonable. Have to figure out if pump is damaged first. If that's all that's wrong I will be happy to pay it. How do I test the pump? I know I can hear it cycle when I turn the key on. Doesn't mean it's working properly though. LOL!

Before springing for a fuel pump, check your fuel filter (although it sounds like your super trick, POS fuel cap started everything). I had a similar problem on a BMW and it turned out to be a clogged filter, which then resulted in a blown fuse that didn't look blown until I actually tested it. Replaced the filter (and fuse) and have put another 35,000+ miles on the bike without any trouble. Probably getting close to time for another filter now, since the first one went at about 40,000 miles.

Yeah, definitely don't have $324 to throw away. Gonna be a last resort. It's not my primary transportation so it can wait, but it sucks with the weather finally breaking. I'll definitely let everyone know if I find the culprit. If anyone else has suggestions please fire them in. I've done all the mods and work to my bike and this is the first issue I've had. Just saw something in my searches looking for possible solutions to my problem from a Gixxer site. One way to test for good flow through the fuel pump is to pull fuel line off the fuel rail and crank engine. Probably need a helper to hold line in a bucket. LOL! If there's good flow then the pump probably isn't bad. Then I'll be back to square one. Honestly if all that is wrong is that I need a fuel pump I'll be okay with that. Just want to be sure.

OK. "It cranks but doesn't try to fire." That's not a fueling issue. That's a spark issue. It may be a fueling issue causing problems with the spark. Pull the plugs one at a time and see if any of them are wet.

I will eventually check them, but don't see how they could be bad. I have only around 3, 000 miles on my bike because of hand surgeries. Last year was first year I put any real miles on it (2400). The tank pressure was so damn high it just seems to make sense that something in the fuel system went. I'm not ruling anything out yet. I'll know a little more once I get the tank off hopefully. I'll definitely keep that in mind though if I don't find something else wrong first.

So finally got a minute for a quick check. Nothing looks or seems out of the ordinary under the tank. Pump seems to cycle fine, but I'll probably pull the hose off the rails tomorrow and cycle it to see if she spews gas. Sucks with school and work/family that I have no time to work on her properly. Hoping to have some time after work Friday.

You sound pretty confident that it's a fueling issue. Let's run with that.

Assuming gas is coming out the hose (and the fuel rail is clean) the injectors are next to pull. Yeah, that sounds ugly. I've been trying to think of a way to do it that doesn't spew gasoline, and I've got nothing.

Thinking.......... If there is a plug in the fuel line before the injectors, it won't be hard to find. If something plugged all the injectors? If it's a solid, you're screwed. It's kind of like a bit of sand in a carburetor jet. Been there, had that.

It would take a big ole' something to block a fuel line. A same big ole' something to block the rail.

Does the 6r have an inline fuel filter? I honestly hope so, but I haven't had reason to look for one.

I've had the tank up many times. I don't recall seeing a filter.

If when you pull the hose off, it doesn't spew gas, then it's easy.
after that, what have you got in mind?
