Rider Insurance Policy Change

I emailed Rider and this is their response:
"Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rider Insurance. Rider’s Motorcycle / ATV Classifications are based on the insurance risk associated with the particular makes and models. This is something that is reviewed periodically and adjusted according. Unfortunately, due to the high losses associated with your type of motorcycle, it was reclassified and is now considered a high performance vehicle under the Rider guidelines. With respect to how this will affect your renewal, you will see an increase in premium. The new premium amount for the upcoming term is $1561.00."

I went from $268/year to $1561/year. I am 21 with a clean record, I am married, and a solid 3.5 GPA.
Holy crap. I'm not looking forward to my renewal in July. :(

I was just quoted $228/year for maximum coverages and lowest deductibles. So the papi chulo policy. I wonder why some are quoting as performance and others are not. Is there a place on their site that states this? I will not go with rider if that's the case. I have Progressive now and pay $38/month full coverage with decent coverages.
I would be DAMN sure before i made that switch. Both those are fantastic numbers, JT your in CA what are you paying and who are you with?

So I got an email response almost immediately. The FZ6R has been reclassified into the sport/performance category. The new rate takes effect June 1st 2014. If you get a policy before June 1st you are grand fathered in to the old rate, but only for one year and then you get the new rate which he keeps forgetting to mention. Not worth it to change policies since I've had this one for 2 years if it will go up dramatically.
well thats rather unfortunate news. at least we can finally put it to rest of why everyone keeps getting diff answers...

although im still waiting for them to notify me of such changes -_-

They will probably wait until the last day in May to notify everyone so they dont have time to go get another policy before theirs lapses !

Just got my letter today that they're reclassifying my bike. I sent a nasty gram telling them they need to do a little research on the bike and if my policy increases by more than 10%, I will gladly pay someone more to insure it just out of spite.

I'm sure it will be more than 10%. I am also sure I will go somewhere else and pay more out of spite. It's utterly ridiculous to classify the FZ6R as a high performance sport bike.

My old premium was $229 a year, 100/300k, with a 250 deductible. New quote with the same limits is $665. They can go to Hell.

A Triumph Daytona (which if I was buying a true sports bike is what I would get), is only $728. Fawk Rider.

A quote from Geico, who has my two other vehicles (2004 Grand Cherokee and 2014 Jetta TDI) wants over $1400 a year. Also bullshit.

Progressive is quoting a little over $400 a year for the FZ6R. I foresee them as my new motorcycle insurance company.
