Aloha from Hawaii

Hi all. Planning on purchasing a 2009 FZ6R with about 8000 miles. I believe the current owner is in this forum as well.

Been riding since 2003 on and off with Ninja and Daytona. When I moved to Hawaii I thought I would change it up and see how the cruisers felt. My buddies who had Harleys always bragged about the comfort and the sound and stuff. So I went ahead and bought a small Suzuki S-40 (Savage/LS650). Rode around for a month and I just didn't think it fits me. I tried a bigger cruiser and it just looked too big on me.

When I was at the Experienced Rider Course, the coach suggested a Sport Touring bike. I think he had a BMW 1200 or something of that nature. So I'm going to see how the FZ6R works out.

Hope to get a lot of insight from the forum, and I am a newbie in a sense so please bear with me.

The bike I'm buying is complete stock. The owner suggested looking here for a "stock exhaust mod". Looked around and found the "Free 5 Min Mod". I'm not sure if that'll work for the muffler that's under the bike?

If you all have any other suggestions, let me know. Thanks!

FZ6R is a great all arounder. I have a Suzuki S40 as well and I use it for taking my wife or kid on rides or just when I need to carry stuff in saddle bags. If you want to cruise around or commute you might want to just stick with it if you didn't like the step up which is I believe the C or M 50. Assuming your on Oahu the east and north sides are the best places to ride the rest of the island is a traffic nightmare that makes L.A. look good :)
Not sure what Ninja you were riding but the 650 is a very similar bike to the fz6r just no as smooth. The Daytona I believe is a 675 and faster but there are several other experts on here. I had to restrict myself to the shorter bikes when I was looking :)

Yea.. traffic here is horrible. Just moved here in May and already hating traffic! lol even though I hated LA traffic too haha

I had the ZX6R.. and yep 675 Daytona. I'm excited for this one. Never had a sport-touring so hope it works out!

brother

my brother lived there about 7 years and I loved it except the traffic is really nasty, mainly because there is only one fricken road on the Honolulu side. But really enjoy yourself while your there. Im a diver so went out every time I visited, if you don't dive take the submarine ride that leaves out of the Hilton village. he rode a ninja 650 while he was there. And while I think your going to find the fz6r a lot more comfortable you might miss the extra power of the Daytona, at least Im assuming. I have not ridden one but I have ridden a street triple and that def. has our bike beat power wise. Too bad it looks like a big bug lol

its worth the money, it was like 75 or 100 when i did it. You can get discount tickets golore around there. Im sure you have already hit up the bay but check out this cool beach on the west side where there is a huge rock sticking up out of the ocean you can climb up on and jump off. I bet the Pali highway would be a good ride if you took it at like 7am on sunday or something. Anyway welcome and Aloha!

hey yellow fever!!!!

can you give me some recommendations on what island to visit and hotels that are in good areas all obviously at lowest cost possible?? thanks in advance for you input I will do some research on my end
Have you been here before? Reason I ask is, if you've been here before and saw all the tourist-y things (Pearl Harbor, USS Arizona, Waikiki, etc) then I'd suggest going to Maui. I have not been there before but I hear it is gorgeous. I'm sure there are tour packages for Maui. Benefit for Maui is not very populated (since most come to Oahu), scenary, etc. Drawbacks.. gas is crazy expensive and I think hotels are little more than Oahu.

Now if you want the typical "Hawaii" experience, come to Oahu. Here you can go to the USS Arizona memorial, see Pearl Harbor, go to Waikiki beaches, etc. Cheapest hotels are in Honolulu itself. Ones in Waikiki start at over 125 a night and parking fee is like 30 a day. We're used to it because the cost of living here is so high, but tourists need to save up and expect the worst.

If and when you do come to Oahu, make sure you check out North Shore as well. That's where they do the crazy surfing and stuff and sunsets are amazing there. Good food too.

They do have motorcycles for rent and you can go around the island (along the coast) in about 3 hours. Awesome ride.

So there it is.. and since I live here I do have to tell you "Hawaii" is it's own island.. aka "The Big Island". Oahu is where Honlulu is hahah everyone just say Hawaii and expect the locals to think Oahu = Hawaii. Nope!
