looking through the thread I don't see you mention the brand of speakers/mic that you got to work with your helmet. Could you tell me what they are. I would like to get something like that for my helmet to go with my other setup that I have. Also what is that bluetooth unit that you have there? I didn't see that mentioned either.

Thanks guys! I use a 5dmkII and a variety of lens, i believe most of these are w/ a 50mm f/1.4 (my brother-in-law borrowed my 35mm f/1.4 and this is the widest i have for now). But just FYI, many photos can come out quite nice w/ a bit of editing!

The bluetooth reciever does have a mic built in. i am working on making this setup work for music and phone calls. I will probably work on it this weekend and update this thread when i do.

I was looking around and found that midland has a very nice BT unit for helmets even though it comes in at 194.00. Midland makes a connector that plugs into the bottom of the BT unit and goes to a midland radio, so you can get that extra range with it. So I guess I might just go that route instead of having to mess with finding different adpaters to work with it and all.

$17 vs $194. For me, i'd rather spend the money elsewhere since i dont think i'd be using the phone a lot during a ride. The music what im mainly after. The phone is just a plus and it'd be done soon.

I hear you there but I'm a bit quirky, looks like it'll be a while before I get going with that end of things though. I think I might go your route though in the mean time. let me know about that mic install and how you go about it. I'd like to do that as a temp install type of thing until I can blow some cash on the other BT system.

Oh really? This is the only thing holding me back on pulling the trigger on this stuff. If I could use my phone while on rides(just to recieve calls when nessecary of course) it would be amazing.
Please lmk what you find out.

since we were on the subject, i went on ahead and worked on the BT helmet.
So, i broke apart the BT adapter.
then lengthened the mic and added an external button (power) and taped it all up.
since it was so thin, i then slid the unit behind the padding on the helmet and ran the headphone jack/charging port out the strap hole for easy access to charge the unit.
After putting the cheek pads back on, you do not see a thing. I ran the mic up to the chin of the helmet and made a test call. Everything works! I dunno how it'd be on the road, but my gf didnt have an issue hearing me while i had the helmet on in the room. SOOOOOOOOOOO...VOILA! success!

What about having access to the rest of the controls? Like the foward and back and volume controls? I thought you were going to leave the unit mounted outside the helmet and wire the mic and all inside that way you could have easy access controls instead of having to get your phone out.

I could have done that, but i didnt want to have an external unit. Also, the controls on the unit were not so good, they work but it was hard to push the buttons w/ gloves on. So i will be using a mount on the handlebars to access music and answer calls.

The shallow DoF is usually a pretty good give away to nice kit vs nice editing. I loved my 50/1.4, until I got my 85/1.4. My 50 rarely sees use at this point.

Im confused at whats been done here. The bluetooth unit has a mic built in?

The BT unit does have a build in mic. I basically just cut and extended the wires so i can put the mic where i wanted. As for the power button, it was built into the board so i just soldered/tapped a button into the same connection so i can hide the actual unit and run the button externally. Hope that helps. I should have taken pics of it but i forgot to and i taped everything up already and hid it all in my helmet. But let me know if you have more questions.

Mkay I went ahead an ordered the unit, im gunna see if I can extend just the mic possibly, and keep it all in the original housing, for ease of charging.

Interesting. I would have tried to keep the controls myself as I tend to cut the tips of the fingers of my gloves off anyway. I can't use my phone unless have an exposed finger to touch the screen with.
You have a point on this... lol. I would love a 5D III, such a sexy body! I'm still working with my T2i but will be getting back into a 7D soon. I would go back to a 5D but man that's a big price anymore. 7D has a lot of features I'm after though.
I personally love my 50 1.4, I got it and it had a problem so I sent it and my T2i along with all my lenses to canon for adjustment and man, what a difference. Everything is tack sharp, I love it. I fell back in love with my camera and the lenses when I got it back. My 100 /2.8 is a fun lens as well...

Sigma 85/1.4 I'd like to replace my 7D with a 5D (II or III, probably 3) before new years for a trip to NYC. The 85mm lens combined with a FF camera should make a mighty combo.
I spend too much money on motorcycles to be able to afford the 85/1.2. Although everything I have read has been good.
