So, my buddy bought one a few weeks ago. Yamaha blue, it's pretty sick.

So yesterday at my son's t-ball game he says, "go take it out." I immediately get this "holy $hit" feeling in my stomach. I decline... tell him it's too new, I don't want to crash etc... Truly I was a little freaked out. I have ridden liter bikes before but nothing like this  As we go to leave he jumps on my bike, tossing me the key to the R1, "have fun." At this point my balls were in my throat, "F" it, I'm going for it.

I jump on the R1 and immediately notice how balanced it was. I swear it felt like it weight 100 pounds. Before I put the key in, my buddy explains the following: There is two ride modes, "Race" and "standard" and 5 traction control settings... Well, you all know how I ride, so I play it safe and set the beast in "standard" mode and set the traction control on 4 out of 5. 5 being very very hard to wheelie etc... So, the key goes in and there I go. Right off the bat I notice how responsive the throttle is. I barely, and I mean barely release the clutch and it pulled hard.

Light turns green and I hit a on ramp to the freeway. This on ramp is a nice long sweeping type... I twist that throttle like I do on the 6R. I was blown away, how much power and response there was. That thing rev'd for days, and I mean days! I hit 100mph in First gear. I then slam the machine into 2nd, and well... I was gone... I mean it pulled so hard I swear I was on star trek going warp 9! Remember, the machine was set on "standard" mode with almost full traction control... Thank God for that cause I know, I would of flipped that bike backwards for how hard I hit the throttle. I rode it about 25miles, all freeway... Hitting red line, dropping down a gear and slamming throttle etc... My God people! You know I love speed, but holy $hit.. The R1 should be illegal! :D

My thoughts on the bike. Granted It was only a 25 mile ride, but.... To much power for me. No way! lol no way... the only down side I "felt" was my wrist were killing me and the heat from the engine, I swear almost caught my legs on fire... other then that, the R1 was made for a God... Cause that machine was absolutely breath taking incredible!

I have some video... It's a view from my 6R of me riding the R1. It's not an onboard video so you don't get the feel of acceleration but you get the point.

:picsorstfu:

LOL

Very nice! Sweet bike. That would be fun, but I'd get my license taken away in no time flat, if I didn't kill myself first.

And (sorry for ruining it for some of you in on the joke) it's been over a week so I think it's time to tell you your sig says "I'm addicted to jsp." Now either you really are, or you didn't notice it was changed on you. For a LEO, you aren't too observant of the details, ha ha!

lol ask CC about the sig... I caught it the first or second day, I'm letting it ride :D

And yes the R1 was fun... but I still can't believe how much pull and power it has. The R1 to me didn't fell like a daily/weekend warrior/commuter type of bike... I would die if I had to ride that thing everyday!

haha nice! Star Trek warp speed was my exact analogy when I rode my buddies R1! They are crazy powerful.

Yes... One mistake and your done for sure! I was cruz'n on the bike thinking I'm doing around 90 or so... I look down and I was at 130mph! I couldn't believe it. Making Video now... again for the record it's not on board and not to exciting...

anything with you in it is exciting.....

When I first got on my 955i, I was amazed at the power and speed etc.
After a couple of months, I installed a 1/4 turn throttle and now use the power at will.

As with anything new, it takes time to make the adjustment.

what adjustment did that new throttle do? did it limit how fast you dip into your power(create more control) or open it up more?

It comes stock with a 2/3 turn throttle so it was hard to just wick it full open. You had to reposition you hand so the wrist up pointing up and no one rides like that. After the change it is a true 1/4 turn..in fact it is a new style Yamaha throttle tube. I have the older Yamaha tube that is even shorter turn radius. I will test out eventually. I want to get more used to this first...Baby steps.....
The difference is the size of the cam. You have less precise throttle control at first and then you get used to it. I rode "The Snake" with the middle one and Scitt grips safety wired and it felt pretty damn good. I will move to the one on the right eventually.

Here is a picture for reference. Stock Triumph Daytona 955i on the left and the Yamaha parts on the right. I'm using the middle one right now. You can see where I used wire clippers to remove the second cable hole as I have a single cable system. The Yamaha has dual (push/pull) cables. The second hole prevented WOT so I clipped it off.

My balls got tingly just from reading that post. I can only imagine how nuts that bike must be. Thanks for the input!

The new R1s have one of the best sounding engines I have ever heard! They sound just like a Chevy 350 at low RPM. This video is a great example. Check out the bike at 0:28!
