Im looking to upgrade the headlight on my bike, and I was wondering what a bright bright bulb for around $30 or less?

Im looking for almost the HID look, the very bright white with just a hint of blue. At my work we sell Sylvania zXe's which are a xenon bulb, and they come in packs of two only and with my discount they're about $50.

So what would be a very bright bulb for relatively cheap? I MIGHT go HID, I just don't like messing around with wiring.

Hid are plug and play.

You take out the old bulb, put in hid bulb, hook up the ballast and your done!

I might just buy the zXe's from my work..one of the guys has them in his S10 and they're really bright and look nice. I just don't want to drop $50 on the set when I only need one of them

silver star's are meh, the zXe's are the brightest of sylvania. Then it goes down to silverstar ultra, then silverstar..

Anyone have any comparison pics with silverstars or something like that?

I have a 10,000K HID on my bike and I absolutely love it! I can see them and they can see me, even during the day. I think you would be very, very pleased with the HID choice!

you forgot the illegal part of that statement....

Putting a HID in a non projector housing is going to get you tickets from the po po.... Do it right the first time and have focused light like you are supposed to... just aim the headlight almost straight out and you can get that nice flicker as your suspension goes up and down so you still hit them hard with your low beam inside a projector housing. Also if you trim the housing cover a little so that some light escapes the projector it will light up the reflector bowl well and make your light appear much bigger and stand out more as you will be scattering light more... but the most important part is that you wont be blinding on coming traffic.

If you are set on a brighter bulb then go with the zxe bulbs, they will get you the noticeably brighter light, just make sure you keep an extra bulb on the bike handy so that you can change it out if it goes out while riding. They are fairly easy to get to and you can easily just mount a light bulb carry box to the inside of the front fender. You'll always have a second one handy and it'll be stored out of the way and right were you need it. It's always a smart thing to store at least one extra bulb on your bike for this reason.

If you do want to go the HID route, there are plenty of cheap E-bay options, but if you want quality there are a couple threads on there about it. The ebay options will last a little while but they have a proprietary bulb that you can't just get a replacement at locally in a pinch.

The true quality option with something like the MORIMOTO MINI H1 4.1 or even the ultra mini which is conserderably smaller and very good quality. They don't require much work to install and will give you much better quality of light on the road and keep you from getting tickets for improper modification of a headlight, that blinds people on the other side of the road...

You can only put so much light out of a standard reflector housing before it's excessive and causes problems, like cops pulling you over or people constantly brighting you....

Unfortunately the company I got my HID kit from doesn't do motorcycle stuff anymore. But my kit was like $40. Most of the time you're looking over $100 though. The guys that you see with the bluish, or pure white bulbs only without an actual HID ballast are putting in a bulb that you actually can't see as much with. They look bright, but don't actually illuminate nearly as well as even a stock light, let alone a true HID.

You can still get motorcycle size's from DDM Jon. the H series bulbs are mainly fog light bulbs in cars, they are still there, they just don't have "Motorcycle specific" kits, but there is no such thing as vehicle specific HID kits IMO.

I looked at DDM before. Would we use the 55 or 35 versions?

You'd want to go with the 35w, at that size you are still getting close to 3 times the light output or more compared to a 55w halogen.

One of the other reasons to go with HID is to also reduce the load on your stator, so staying away from a 55w would be better on your bike as you would be freeing up electrical power for other things, like accessory lights and so on if you want to add them to make yourself more visible.

The projector has to be a hid-projector. Just because it's a projector lens doesn't mean it was meant for an Hid bulb.

of course.... that's implied. anyone with sense should know that.

This is the reason I haven't bothered to swap out my headlights in my car. lol.

I don't want to spend the money on new housings right now, lol. Sometimes I wish I would have dropped the extra 2k to get the premium model of my WRX but then I also remember that I would have had no need for heated mirrors, seats, navigation and a sun roof.... I live in florida and have no need for heated whatever and a sun roof/moon roof can only be used for a few forth months out of the year and the nav unit on the cars were never anything to sneeze at, just not worth the money.... If I can find a set at the junk yard I'll do it that way, lol.

Could always do a retrofit easy for a NOVICE Mechanic...check my signature for the link to my DIY...very easy to do

Does it look that Sylvania bulbs are the "simpliest" way for the mechanically disabled to improve on the light output from the stock?
