Hello Everyone,

Just out of curiosity, I notice on all the FZ6R engine start up videos that the FI system makes a whinning sound to prime up the engine. On my FZ6R I can't hear the priming at all when I turn on the ignition switch!!! I know my FI system is functioning correctly because I ride my motorcycle everyday and it runs great. I just kinda confused :(

Thanks

Post a link to said videos? You might be confusing the whine for the radiator fan that turns on when the bike is hot, not moving, and electrical power is on while the bike is not running.

Yep, you will only hear the whine when the kill switch is in the "ON" position.

Ahh I see, thats weird though. Because of my habit, I always switch on the ignition before the kill switch and I guess in this order the engine doesn't prime up? But I never had problems starting the bike....interesting.

Im at 16,000 miles and have started it with the switch in either positions many times to no problems. You shouldn't have any problems either.

In the MSF class they teach "FINE-C" before so I've been following that sequence.

Fuel supply valve (not on our bikes)
Ignition (key)
Neutral (usually skip this step as I tend to just park in neutral)
Engine-cut off aka kill switch
Clutch (not necessary on our bikes either)

I've heard the whine every time I start up. I usually wait a second for the whine to stop before pressing the starter.

Sure enough

Well I'll be darned. I never noticed that. I just checked mine, and you guys are right, kill sw off= no whine, kill sw on= whine. Makes sense. In the past I always started mine with the kill sw already on. I suspect that like my old honda, gravity is enough to get some fuel to the motor and get things going. I also think its best to turn the ignition on after turning the kill sw on. This would take care of the "F" in "fine-c". Obviously fine-c doesn't fit our bikes perfectly.
