I just noticed how overpowered our FZ6R's are by other bikes. my buddy has a stock R6 and the thing is so much faster, now he just upgraded to an r1 and at 70mph my bike is at 7k rpm his is at like 5 huge difference. starting to regret my choice to go with this bike. thinking about an upgrade of my own
There is day... (like everytime I go to the Yammy dealer and stear at the FZ1) that I think I should have went with a bigger ride. But once I'm back on my saddle I'm happy. Lower maintnance cost, better fuel economy and in a total moment of madness... well It just so much I can do, good thing!
But hey! We will all get to Christmas at the same time, no mather how fast we go...
I'm not trying to sell you an exhaust here but there is a noticable difference with an aftermarket exhaust. Combine the weight lost (10 lbs) with around +5 Hp with a much better mid range. Won't make ita R6 but much more fun to ride. 5 Hp doesn't sound much, but it's good. Ponies to weight ratio it's about 30 HP on a car... I wish I can buy 30HP on my car for few hundred box...
For me personaly it went from ok to fun to ride. That acceleration pump feature on PCV is a blast!

I kinda went down that path for awhile, shoulda just got the ZX-6R straight up for $2K more. But, I have come full circle on the FZ6R. It's a great bike for the kind of riding I do, I typically ride just once a week and do 200-500 mile 'tours' of the Texas hill country. We got lots of cops and crappy roads, and gas stations get scarce way out in the back country, so the bike works well for 'sporty' touring.
However, if I were more of a bike night guy, or track guy then maybe the ZX-6R would have been a better choice. For now, the FZ6R is keeping me happy - it may lack some of the 'adrenaline' factor of a full on SS, but like everyone says, there is always time for that bike in the future.
Just make peace with your FZ6R and learn as much as you can while you are with her, then move on to the SS after awhile if that is still what you want.
You are so right...6R_blue,, if you get a R6 to keep up with your friends R1,you will be satisfied...............for a while. Then after a few times when he pulls away from you (again + again) you will want to trade up to a R1 like his. Speed is a very intoxicating thing. We all like it ,after all that is one of many reasons why we ride, but only you can answer the question "How quick do you want to go?"
Some 10 years ago I was in a team, where there was this guy, who must have hit hit mid life right as he got his bank statement. He got himself this gorgeous yellow Ferrari. He drove it to work every day. Some months later I saw him in BMW 540. I asked why the change and he explained that the Ferrari wasn't at all practical for daily use.
Be happy with your FZ. There will always be faster bikes. You gotta settle somewhere and enjoy.
well, i know that i'm a slow learner & not as daring as other riders. but, i don't regret starting with the 6R at all... it's a comfortable, stable, and predictable bike to learn on- forgiving in all the right places & with some muscles where needed. ***
i guess one could argue that a ninja 250 might've been an even lighter & easier bike to learn on... but, then losing 50 lbs when going to the R6 wouldn't be as fun and exciting... hahaha
side-by-side, the 6R does feel more sluggish, top heavy, and underpowered compared to the R6. but, speed and acceleration are not the only measurements of a good bike, imo...
there are days when you just want to hop on the freeway and get up to 90 as fast as u can. but, then there are days when you just want to hop on PCH enjoy the scenic view and cruise without having a stiff neck... lol ***
Wait a minute...you mean the FZ6R is not the fastest I4 600 out there?? Next someone is going to tell me that my Mazda 3 is not the baddest 4 cylinder on the road....no chance! I've pinned the throttle at 6000 RPM and the FZ6R...well...goes as if I almost pinned it....
I love the FZ6R, but for exactly what it is for and it is not in the hemisphere of a Super Sport and intentionally so.
My girlfriend and I ride 2 up quite often. I'm 6'2" and she's 6'. We can pass anyone we need to on the highway easily and with a level of comfort that lets us do so for our entire ride.
You should have no problem keeping up in the corners (assuming your skill level is the same) My buddy has an gixxer 750, he smokes me in the straights... but we are neck to neck in the corners! Remember, anyone can ride fast in a straight line
