Wife says " What if I wanted to get a bike"

Well, I figured it was only a matter of time.


Wife sat on a ninja 300 a couple weeks ago & I saw the sparkle in her eye. Then we went on a few trips where we rode 2 up but saw several female riders. Then She finally said the words in that female way....


She says......... "So Anthony... what if I wanted to get a bike" ?

Which of course means, Can I have a bike? :)



So we discussed it, I told her to first pass her written test, then take the Abate course & see how she feels. If after she takes the abate course she still wants a bike then big papa will look to make it happen. If however she changes her mind after the course then so be it. At least by that point she will have had her permit, Done the MSF course which allows for endorsement & have some feeling for what it's like.


So, we got her scheduled for the course later this season & she's going to get the written manual tomorrow..


We shall see how it goes...





Side note: I WISH she had the same thoughts only months ago when I sold the FZ6R!

Nice! My wife has requested a chance to ride two up but I'm not yet comfortable doing that.

Regarding the solf FZ6r - there are others still available you know... ;)

My wife did that last summer. Took the MSF class and has her endorsement. But she thinks my 6R is too heavy, so next year we'll get her a smaller bike. Ninja 300 or Honda 500 most likely.

Thats cool that you have her taking those steps to verify interest before outlaying the funds! VERY COOL also that she said she wants to be the rider also. That Ninja 300 is a sweet looking little bike. Peppy and good for beginners but good enough to keep also since it is now perfectly able to handle freeways when needed without too much stress.

Is she really tiny or is it just relative to you? ;)

Many cruisers have very low seats and that can inspire confidence in new riders. The ABATE course will be a great intro and she can see how it feels to ride a small cruiser. I think the 6R is not a good choice for a first bike for a short/petite rider. It is too tall and top heavy.

Both.... My Wife is 5"3, 90 lbs.... I am 6"9, 300 lbs....

my pretty little lady friend which has had more than enough 2 up seat time lately also keeps commenting on wanting one. I not only threw out what you did Anthony in the same order but prior to all that I suggested the we go off road and have her learn / practice and get comfortable with all the gears on Quad. once the shifting is second nature then she can learn how to balance lol.

you may want to have your wife do the same.

My girl had the same exact reaction when she sat on the ninja 300 but then asked "how do you ever merge onto a highway ?".

Wifey loves riding two up, I always ask her to let me buy her an older Ninja 250 to at least see if she likes it, but I think she prefers the two up riding for sure.

Not to take anything away from the girls doing their thing but as a couple its nice to have a 2 up ride here and there

Tell my wife that. Can't get her to get on my bike. I think she'd understand why I like to ride if she went with me one time.

Sometimes experiences as a child or teen make this easier. My wife visited India a few times as a child/teen. Everytime she rode on a motorcycle out there as a passenger because most people in India do have scooters or motorcycles and she loved it then. When I brought up the idea to get one and get my license, she was 100% behind it and couldn't wait.

I still love riding two up with my man, and do it quite often. Even if its just a quick spin down to the shops and back. Its the nicest kind of intimate feeling you can get in public lol :p

He got on the back of my dirtbike the other day, felt soooo strange! Will be a long time, if ever, before I take a pillion on my FZ6r haha...

Based on my recent experience, I'd have to say that the new Honda 500s are as much bike as a person of her size is ever likely to need. For a guy like me, new front fork springs will eventually be a requirement. For a 90 pounder? It's perfect.

Guess I could have phrased that better. JT would have a field day with that comment I'm sure. Does he have a bike of his own?

A friend bought a Ninja 300... says it's one of the best handling bikes he's ridden... loves it... Linear power without wanting to knock you off... Hard to let it get away... ABS (if you go with the special edition), slipper clutch... lots of safety...
