I prefer my Manta XL, but it's even too small to fit a pair of shoes in there, so I normally use my Icon tank bag/back pack.
Icon Urban Tank Bag - Street Bike - Motorcycle Superstore
It's an Icon Backpack/Tank Bag. It has 4 pretty strong magnets so you can use it as a tank bag. When you get to your destination, dumb your gloves in your helmet, then you can attach your helmet underneath the backpack. Looks like it will fall out, but it's held in there pretty well. I've never had mine fall out. My only complaint is the straps. They hide away, but they're thin. The best part though is the big clear window in the front for directions or GPS.
I have back/shoulder/neck problems, so if I need a pack, Manta XL is too small, and I'm not going far, I wear my Adidas backpack with "load springs" and soft stuff for the shoulders, and a single strap that connects the shoulder straps across your chest. This takes the pressure off my shoulders and makes it really comfortable when walking or riding. I'm a school teacher, so I normally use that with a pair of dress shoes, bagged lunch, and some books.
