9) Motorcycle Safety Fact: When a motorcycle is in motion, see more than the motorcycle - see the person under the helmet, who could be your friend, neighbor, or relative.

However I kind of like the incognito thing of wearing a helmet (insert evil laugh)

Meh? I have had a blackout shield (for day riding) for last 2 years, if anything IMHO I think it helps because you dont have look directly in their eye, a casting glance gives the impression that you are mercilessly glaring at them!:spank:

Afterall ATGATT riders are all bad-asses:rockon:

That's all good stuff, we can only wish the cagers would read it. I have to disagree with number eight, though. On dry pavement, I consistently stop in much less distance than I do when driving a car.

It may just be me, I don't like to stop. Still, in my opinion, given dry pavement, a motorcycle can both stop and accelerate faster than a car. Heck, we do it every day!

Maybe the article means a panic stop? Back tire locked, I can see where a bike might slide more than a car. Nope, mental visualization, and my bike still stops faster. I've got to disagree with that number eight.

When you've had two wrecks involving other vehicles that either turned or pulled out in front of you, it helps a little bit in preventing those in the future.

You go from not thinking about a vehicle pulling into your path, to wondering if a vehicle will pull into your path, to knowing it will pull into your path.

I assume EVERY oncoming vehicle is a blind, texting, left- turning fool with the driving skills of Mr. Magoo, and the compassion (for bikers) of Hannibal Lecter... It's kept me out of trouble... so far...

I ride like that, but it scares me how many people actually fit the description. Everyday I see head-down texting in the middle of a turn. I've had people slam into me while sitting at a red light and change lanes without looking and slam into the side of me. Thankfully this was all years ago in my cage. Maryland drivers are actually getting worse!

I've a friend that insists it's getting worse down here as well... and recently lost an anatomical bit to a careless cager, to back up his contention... When he wants to ride, he'll now take the super-slabs north to get out of Metro Atlanta before turning off into the back roads...

I think all licensed drivers should have to take the MSF class and spend time on a scooter/motorcycle in order to get a license...

This would serve two purposes...

1. Those to scared to ride a bike wouldn't be able to get a license...boosting public transportation, reducing fuel usage.

and

2. Make the rest of those that do drive more aware!

... which is exactly why I lightly press the rear brake pedal when I roll off the throttle, whether approaching a suspect intersection situation, or especially when on the freeway and approaching slow / stopped traffic ahead.
