I am still in the break-in period and just about every time out I twist the throttle a bit, but don't keep it there long though. From what I understand as long as it is only momentary it won't hurt anything, might even do it some good......Thanks guys When do you suggest at what amount of miles can I open her up? I have been taking her easy during break in, but what RPM should I not exceed like from 1st to 6th? After 1k miles can I shift at 8k RPM's. I want to see what she can do after a while. Any body else get a little anxious to open it up once in a while?
heh, blast isn't the word. I'm still in my break in, but I read the manual as (don't cruise above 5666 rpm), been toying at 7k until my first oil change at 300miles, been toying at 9k a couple of times (never until well into my ride) and it's crazy how fast you hit 70mph.Yep, open her up every now and again!! Just don't keep it at high rpm's until out of your break-in period. It's a blast, and you won't help but to do it frequently after the first time.
If you've read this thread and others, it should be pretty obvious, but I'll restate it. Holding the bike at any rpm (high, low or somewhere in between) IS NOT RECOMMENDED. You should vary your rpms around even if that means riding around in 2nd or 3rd gear. "Cruising" on the highway is not a good way to break in the bike. If you must take a highway, use exit and on ramps to go through rpm band, use engine breaking etc.I'm only 78 miles into my new bike. Got it on the 16th of April. The manual stated to not hold over 5800 rpm for long periods of time. I've cruised around the local hwy at 60mph and below 5500rpm. It says after the initial oil change you can go up to 7krpm and at 1k mark you can go guns a blazin.. I can't wait to hit the interstate with no worries . Might go for a ride up around Caddo and Cross Lakes this week.
It takes a bit getting used to on this bike. Only once I did this but I skipped 2nd gear, on purpose, on a normal street speeding up and didn't seem like I needed it. I wonder if this will hurt it.. doesn't hurt a manual car..
Oh I've been doing that for sure. Most of the highways around me are red light green light go for a short while then another light, off ramp on ramp ect. If I am on the HWY "cruising"( for a short time of course) I deliberately stay around 5k but slowing with the engine in slow lane to say 40mph then back up to 55mph ect.. I am not letting it stay at a steady speed one bit. Plus it's fun and you can get used to the power/pickup on the bike but safely. If you've read this thread and others, it should be pretty obvious, but I'll restate it.
