So, one of the dudes I work with is selling his 09 R1 and my wife is going to let me buy it! Took some convincing, but she gave the ok! Plus it already has the Power Commander and Graves full exhaust system! Hopefully I can handle it! HAHAHA!

I'm very jealous. Of all the 09 and 2010 bikes I checked out at the Long Beach show last weekend, the R1 is by far my favorite looking bike out there right now. What color scheme is it? If you say black and red I'm really going to be jealous.

And I'll second the be careful. How long have you been riding? That thing is going to feel like a beast compared to the 6R. And the riding position is so much more aggressive. At least you're not doing like my idiot friend and buying an 07 CBR1000RR when he's never even sat on a motorcycle before let alone ridden one.

We need pics when you get it. No deserting us. I think the 2010 LE scheme was my favorite at the show.

But the Black and red 09 is right up there.

No worries though, I will still be on this site! I'm going to give my wife the FZ6R! I have too much money on it already! I will definately post some pics once I get it!

Can't say it enough - ride safe. After reading your post, I'm jealous about a couple of things...R1! Are you kidding me? With the wifey's blessing at that. I'm also jealous of you guys that can fit the sport bikes with stock setup. Vertically challenged guys like me either have to settle, or wait for a couple of mods before we can get on. Anyways, have fun with the new ride! :thumbup:

Nah, I've got a buddy who's not only short, but has abnormally short legs. I'm talking he's 5' 6" with a 26" inseam. He rides a supermoto with almost a 40" seat height! I was laughing my ass off at him the other day because he always puts his foot down on the median curb if there is one at a stop light. And his dirt bike is even taller. Might not be the most confidence inspiring feeling when you're stopped, but you'll probably actually be able to ride better. Look at most of the MotoGP and WSB guys. They're mostly little jockey sized guys anymore. Perfect example is Dani Pedrosa. 5' 2" 112 lbs according to Wikipedia. And he's one of the top MotoGP riders in the world right now on a bike that is most likely taller than a factory liter bike.

you'll love the r1, i have an 08 and its a beast, so be careful! its night and day from a 600, I could flog my old r6 after riding my r1. It felt like I had no power.

It looks like you learned on the FZ6r this year, and have decided in less than 12 months to ditch it for an R1. I personally think this is crazy. Why do you need more power than the FZ6R? Where (legally) will you use this? Seems silly to move up to a bike like that, pay crazy insurance premiums, have a bike which is uncomfortable for long rides, just to shave a second off of the 0-60 time.

And to re-iterate what everyone else has said here - these are two totally different bikes. A small adjustment on the throttle on the R1 means a LOT more than on the FZ6r.

Just my 2 cents. Just be safe, whatever you ride.

Not going to tell you to F Off. But I completely understand why he'd want to jump to an R1. If I didn't have the screwed up spine I have I'd probably be on an R6 already and an R1 in the future. I know a lot of guys on this forum claim they can hang with all their friends on their liter bikes on mountain roads. But those guys they're riding with aren't riding ANYWHERE near the capability of those bikes. Not even close. Fact is, the FZ6R is a great bike. I absolutely LOVE mine. But it's not as capable as some of the more race bred bikes like the R1 and R6. That's just a fact. When I'm on Palomar Mountain (our local road that's a sportbike Mecca, nicknamed Palomar International Raceway) hanging off the bike with my knee 2" from the ground and my pegs scraping, there are guys on liter bikes behind me just waiting for me to get the hell out of the way. Granted they're much better riders than I am, but their bikes are just built to go faster. They're not just faster in a straight line. So I do understand the desire for a more race bred bike. Do I think jumping to one a year after you started riding is a good idea? No. That's what bikes like ours are for. I'd give it a couple of years a least before I even thought about jumping up to a liter bike. But that's just me.Do I think riding a liter bike to it's limit on the street is a good idea? Absolutely not! But having a bike that's capable of a lot more than you are as a rider is something I'm sure a lot of people would love to have. Including me.

I would be on a R6/R1 if I didnt own my bike for commuting and my personal only form of transportation (would kill my back). Plus money was a factor, I wanted something with ZERO miles on it so I couldnt afford the R6/1 pricetag.

Ya are young, got almost 20 on ya. If I were going to trade yet I'd go maybe FZ1 or Triumph Tiger. Something that is still comfy enough to go through 2 tanks a day on or more. An R1 would get wasted of what kind of bike it is with me, it would get taken out for an hour max and put away and I just wouldn't use it much. For those that can still enjoy riding and forget about how uncomfortable they are, enjoy while it lasts lol.

there is a guy i race with, he is in his 70s and rides a cbr600.

although he did lowside last year and broke his collarbone. he also walks with a cane, but can ride the wheels off that bike.

Guess what! My wife decided to change her mind! That was probably the biggest heart break of my life! She wants to get a new family car instead........which is understandable........I guess! Oh well, I will just have to buy one after my next deployment! Looks like I will have to keep building on the 6R!
