Saturday June 22 I will be plasti-dipping my bike, probably my friend Billy's, and anyone else who wants to be dipped. My parents have a HUGE garage we can use that will separate us from bugs, allergens, dust, and other random crap. They are close to the Howard and Montgomery County line in Highland, Maryland.

I plan on dismantling my bike the week before and bringing pieces to my folks house. Dip takes a week or two to cure properly, so I want to make sure mine has time to dry before rubbing my knees on it. You can bring parts or a whole bike, up to you. If I decide to do a lip on my wheels, I will be prepping and masking them ahead of time, and I recommend you do the same.

I will be ordering supplies by the end of the month including a sprayer. I can spray for you or you can spray your own, doesn't matter to me. We can save on shipping if you want to paypal me some money and have me order a gallon for you or whatever. Right now gallons are running somewhere between $60-80.

Feel free to send this to anyone local you know who might want to get dipped. Even if you're not dipping, you can come hang out if you want to.

NJ isn't that far, my wife's best friend is up there and we visit a few times a year. However, is it far just to dip a helmet.... YEAH!! I wouldn't make the trip either.

You definitely don't want to spray plastidip inside. The fumes smell like cancer and it will stink for days.

Yeah. If you've ever smelled a nice thick coat of plasti-dip drying, you can feels your lungs collapsing and brain cells dying. It smells stronger than any gasoline, cleaner, solvent, or adhesive I've ever smelled.

Been doing TONS of research on this. Thankfully most of the knee rubbing on our bikes would be on that black plastic part. But I'm also going to let it cure for at least a week, maybe closer to two. I'll just ride my wife's 250 around. It becomes much harder and harder to mess up at that point. Did an old helmet, then it sat for a couple months. I was surprised at how hard it was to nick it. Once I finally got a corner up it peeled off. Wasn't too bad.

The trick that PD guys are doing is turtle wax "hard shell" wax. You can take a liquid or spray wax and add a nice coating to protect it. This will also help again gas drips which will eat plastidip. Some people even spray automotive clear over it, but then the dip won't peel off, it becomes brittle and its more like removing a sticker except it doesn't leave residue.

So yeah, proper cure time and some turtle wax every few months. I think I'll be just fine :thumbup:
