Perfect Cruising Seat Quest

Thanks everyone. I didn't have time to test it, the guy called me 10 minutes before I left for the airport. Very comfy for a 1 minute ride... Ill give it a good run when I get back next week. It did raise the saddle a good inch. More relaxing position for my legs, without the big gap under the seat. Ill give you a full report after a good few 100 miles ride.

Not to take away from what this thread is about. I really like the mods in this thread. For me though, i was on the same quest after my 150 mile ride to a rockford, IL. The solution for me was somewhat surprising, I just added "snowboarding" impact shorts (with hip/ass pads) to my safety gear, it would protect you somewhat in the crash, but more importantly it makes for a much more comfortable ride
Thanks everyone! Got back in town at 3:00 am last night. 3 hrs delayed flight! It remind me my years in racing... all those people telling me how nice it might be to travel all over the world... Traveling sucks! Riding my 6R is great. Ride to work was great with the new seat... I'm bootyhappy! The real test will be on my next few 100 miles round trip...
One more thing... after sitting for 2 hrs on the tarmac then another 3 hrs for my flight back home. My new 6R seat feel even better...

Oh ya! Forgot about this one. Well it good! Did a few 1, 1 1/2 hrs ride and it feel good. As good as it can get I believe. I'm sure it might still get a little sore on those 6-8 hrs ride. But if I sit on my couch and watch TV for 8 hrs, I'll be beat up too! Now that I sit about 1 inch higher I'm considering bar riser. 1up + 1 back, not quite sure yet. My legs doesn't feel as cramp anymore=good! The riding position is perfect for short ride, but I did prefer the position before the seat. So 1" higher will bring me back where I was before. 1" back... because now I don't have the down slope anymore, so I can sit a bit far back without having my nut sack again the fuel tank... and the padding is larger and better on the back.
But the riser with the Renthal will mean redoing the brake line a bit longer...

Even the rear seat is much better accordingly to my wife.
My question is: Why didn't they just make the stock seat a "comfort seat?" Is that asking too much?You guys know yamaha makes a comfort seat for $189?

Actually, yes, I've known about that seat since the beginning. But the reviews have definitely been mixed. Some say it is slightly more comfortable, some say there is hardly a difference. The fact is that seats for sport bikes are designed to look good and be comfortable enough for the one minute you sit on a bike in the showroom. They are made to be minimal (in size and comfort) for aesthetics and for sporty riding (moving around a lot in the twisties). All these factors add up to a seat that is not great for longer distance riding.
My biggest peeve with sport bike seats by far is the trend to have them slope forward, giving them that not-so-great tendency to crush your nuts. I'm convinced that the slope is entirely to look "fast".
That what came up from my little research i did. Removing the slope is the most important thing.
I tried the Comformax gel pad from Ebay... don't do it. It's just too soft. It give you a gelly feel that feel comfy the first few minutes but the main problem is the gel pad is not dense enough... So when you sit the gel pad form your a$$ but your sit bone bottom out!
It's all about having the right combo of high, med and low density foam. I'll stay away from gel stuff. I have some and I didn't use it. About the heat... I would say your right Szoom, it doesn't breath good...
To give you an idea...
1/2" of high density foam
2 x 1/2" of med...
1" of low...
The low density got compress and shape a bit with the covering... but it feel good. From stock I have about +1" on the rear part of the seat and a solid 2" more up front to remove the slope. So now when I sit at one place, I stay there. I use to slide down and crush my but sack again the fuel tank all the time...
