So I wasn't happy with my T-Rex spool adapters because my bike sat way too high for my liking when it was on my stand. So I flipped the adapters over so the spools are at the top of the adapter. Much better in my opinion. My stand goes under easier and my back tire is only a few inches off the ground when on the stand. The spools are right below the passenger pegs.

Anyone else have this issue or try flipping them?

How far forward did you have them? In the standard location as suggested my wheel is just a few inches off the ground.

Have no issues... I'll have to see how high it lifts the bike, but I found doing the chain a breeze with it up on the spools...
(I'll see if I can get a shot with a ruler there)... and BTW, what stand did you get?

I have mine right where Don has his. Maybe a little further back, as mine are putting pressure on the chainguard. They worked, I just like them better upside down. Don's bike looks to be about as high as mine was. It's significantly higher than mine was on the swingarm stand. Now it's closer to when I was using the pads instead of the spools.

My stand is from Royal Distributing here in Canada. I don't think it's available in the U.S.

im having a problem with the spool adapters from T-Rex. Maybe i'm a complete idiot but when putting them on the swingarm they dont line up correctly and theres a tiny gap between them...really annoying, and the top (smaller) screw won't line up either.

Anyone have any tips for getting these suckers on?

had to fiddle a bit to get the bolts lined up, but once you get one started, start the other one, then alternate back and forth tightening (don't try tightening one all the way).

They are also "keyed" make sure you didn't reverse them, I did and didn't realize it until I had put on the second one, had to take the first one back off and flip it. Where the spool sits has a little recess.

This is what I'm talking about in regards to that "gap" between the two plastic adapters on the top. Is this normal?

It's almost as If the plastic in the adapters were improperly manufactured..

The bottom has no gap at all...

Try unscrewing the bottom a little, then working the top a little more, then tighten them together.

And I swear they might be upside down (Id have to go look at mine, the pic in my link here is too far away). But your spools look like they arent in the proper spot (almost like they are too big).

Also, if I recall, the top botls are shorter than the bottom, so make sure those arent flipped either.

yeah they're not, thankfully i'm not that stupid lol

i have a feeling the plastic inside the brackets may not be smooth or lined up correctly..if i cant get it to work i'll call T-rex up tomorrow.

I had the same issue with my adapters. I found that by just barely starting the bottom bolt, it allowed me to monkey around with the positioning of the top until I got the top bolt started. This probably took about 15 minutes a side. Once both were started, I pushed the 2 sides together and tightened up the bolts. I strongly suggest putting them on so the spools are at the top. I find it much better.

I also had a problem installing my T-Rex no-cut frame sliders. The right side bracket had the hole for the rearmost engine mount bolt too far forward, by about 1/8". This made it impossible to get the rear bolt in. I had to elongate the hole with a grinding attachment on my spinsaw.

All in all, now that I'm done with the installation headaches, I'm very happy with both the spool adapters and the sliders. The new brackets for the sliders have 1 extra bolt on the left and 2 extras on the right that attach directly to the engine, removing the issue of the offset brackets giving the slider leverage on the bracket if the bike goes down.

I bought the rear spools from T-Rex. Are they really that helpful in a low side or tip over? I think they are really ugly on our bikes, just saying.

I hate to bring this thread back from the dead, but I had to take my rear spools off. I couldn't take the look of them on the bike.

I ended up purchasing the other spools that attach to the bolt on your swing arm.

If I remember reading correctly, the spools that attach to your rear bolt on the swing arm aren't as effective as the ones mounted directly to the frame itself? I opted for this way just so I can continue to use my stand.

I guess what I'm wondering is, do rear spools help THAT much to begin with?

I've got the T-Rex spool adapters and I find them significantly better than using the swingarm attachments on my stand. I can hoist the bike easier and quicker and it's more stable. I find the functionality outweighs the look.

The issue with the spools that attach to the axle nuts is that you can't adjust your chain very easily with the bike on the spool stand.

What do you mean by "protect", like frame sliders?
