Lightening sucks!!!

So, my bike was... was plugged in here on the tender.... luckily she fired right up.... don't know if the tender survived or not... extension cable that was plugged in blew out.

managed to come into my cable modem and fry everything connected to my lan... cable modem, bluerays, ps3, cable box.... ugh.... ran out and bought a new cable modem, so at least have internet.

Was crazy, bright light, big bang... smoke... ears ringing.... luckily family ok

Holy Cow! That was too close! Sucks to lose all that stuff, but at least the house didn't burn down and nobody was hurt. Wow.

As bad is it was, that could have been really bad. Time to invest in a lightning rod or three. Maybe they will attract the lightning more than wherever it hit so close.

Back in the day when the huge satellite antennas were the thing, my dad lost the antenna, the very expensive box, his tv and two surround systems to lightning.

He eventually replaced them all and got hit again! Same thing, everything gone. Thankfully by that time Dish Network and such were available, and that's what he's got now, plus a couple lightning rods on the house.

Don't believe lightning doesn't strike twice. Unless that path to ground was destroyed, it's likely to become a favorite.

Yeah, lived here for 17 years and this is a first. Not sure what caused it. We did have several extension cords laying around (I just finished weed wacking with electric trimmer)), but none were connected to any outlet, except the tender... but who knows, may just having all that copper laying around the area.. I mean, i do live in the forest, trees hundred +ft high, so just crazy it would skip all the trees, gutters, heck the power line right above and jump down to my outside outlet... guess it could have hit the power line and then jumped down... it was a bright light and the sonic boom... never been that close before.

Something got hit in my neighbourhood a few years ago and I think it was my neighbour's house. There was about 6 houses that lost computers, fax machines, etc. The neighbour that we think got hit had sparks flying out of outlets that had nothing plugged in. My wife and I were in the basement and thought a truck hit our house. We didn't even know there was a storm until we ran upstairs. It's scary sh!t.

Good to hear it was just "stuff", that can be replaced.

Make sure you get the in the wall wiring check...nothing like haveing bare wires in the walls as a result of shielding being melted off!
