Been there, done that! You want to live on the North side of the 465 loop. Carmel is #1, Zionsville is really nice too. Broadripple area is more like college town. Lots of bars and restaurant. Where's work going to be?Hey folks. I am looking to possibly relocate to the Indianapolis area in the next few months. I will be looking to initially rent an apartment. Can anyone provide any recommendations for good apartments or ones to avoid?
Thanks in advance.
My brother rented downtown for a year. He stayed at a really nice place on the canal called the Cosmopolitan. Rent wasn't cheap, but it's a great location and very new / modern facilities. There are a few places on the canal that might be what you're looking for.I will be working at the IU School of Medicine in/near downtown.

Agree! If you can afford downtown, do it! Downtown Indy is very nice and just big enough. If you want to stay out of the loop I'll suggest you Zionsville more than Carmel. Driving to Carmel is a b&^% at rush hour since everyone hit West on 465 from Downtown. Broad Ripple is where the kids hand out, The crowd Downtown is older and more layback... or use too. It's been few years now. I went to that Irish Pub in Zionsville few time O'Keefsomething. Food was awesome and they had bands on select evening. My brother rented downtown for a year. If you don't want to commute from outside the 465 loop, I'd suggest getting all the way downtown. Wouldn't suggest Broad Ripple unless you really love the college bar scene.
Edit: Just looked up IU Med on Google maps... completely forgot it was on the canal! The Cosmo is just a few blocks south on the corner of Senate and Michigan. You should definitely have some nice options close to work.
You dont want to live there I promise, I spent two years working on the remodel at the med center.Just accept a 20-30 min trip and investigate any reasonable deals you find in the areas Marthy mentioned, they are all a 20 min trip or so depending on traffic.I will be working at the IU School of Medicine in/near downtown.

Looks like you got some good advise, more than what I can provide... but once you get here look me up there are some really nice roads down here by me to ride.Hey folks. Iv ridden with Lee, he does find good roads.Looks like you got some good advise, more than what I can provide... but once you get here look me up there are some really nice roads down here by me to ride.
I had a house in Brownsburg. Nice little town but not much to do. We were hanging out in Avon a lot. You can get everything you need there. Avon is nice but more country side / family oriented with awesome school rating. But it put you out of the action a lot if you have no kids and want to hang out at the bar scene. Depend what he's looking for. But worth looking around and get the feel of the place.I thought about that a little overnight.
Darks recommendation for Avon would be a good area for you.Daily traffic is one thing, but some events downtown would make it alot worse quite often.
The Avon/Plainfield direction will keep you from passing Lucas Stadium, Coseco Fieldhouse, IRP, and IMS.It would take 30 minutes to travel 4 blocks towards the track when the MotoGP is in town.
Also Indy has alot of one ways downtown that don't make much sense. You'll avoid all of them traveling from the Med Center towards Avon.Being a electrician I have to find new places around town all the time.I still get confused with all of the one ways.
Miss one street sign and the next 5 interchanges can take you the wrong way lol.
Yep, Eagle Creek Park. Very nice place to run, bike or just hang out.Eagle Creek? There is a canal downtown to but I imagine you remember Eagle Creek, near 56th half way between downtown and Brownsburg?
Avon and Plainfield might have grown alot if you drove through now.8 seconds bar is on the way to Avon from downtown. He might get to catch a double knockout lol

Yea I agree, I should probably mention the Monon Trail. My sister got alot of use out of it when she lived in Carmel.Just in case he has a dog to walk, or likes to bicycle. It goes all the way from the canal, through Broadripple to Carmel now.Yep, Eagle Creek Park. Very nice place to run, bike or just hang out.
