Improvements required in FZ6R

Hi All

This is my first impression about the newly bought FZ6R, just 3 days old.

Well, we all know the good things about our bike, so I am listing down what all needs to be improved for next version of FZ6R, I am even planning to send this to Yamaha if they are keen to riders feedback. These might be minor ones, but hey we are paying for an YAMAHA not a cheap 100 cc.

1, Do not have a gear indicator for a leaners bike ! I believe this is a must for any leaners bike. 6 speeds and leaners are always confused for a few months.

2, Turn indicators do not cancel automatically. Every chinese bikes has got this facility. Every cars do, why not our Fz6R?

3, Turn indicators doesn't show which indicator is on. There is only one common light indicator in the console unit for both indicators.

4, Pillion grab handle is too close to the body. With gloves on pillion can hardly grab it properly.

5, Well, this one is only for Australia: we don't have YAMAHA racing blue colour bike, I wanted that. We got only pear white/red and raven.

What do you think ? Lets do some brain storming

I've never had a bike with a gear indicator and frankly, I never will. It is just redundant if you keep track of the rpms. As far as the turn signals, I agree it would help if they indicated which side. However, I have also not ridden a bike with self canceling turn signals, it just isn't a problem to click it once you're done.

1. I'd like a gear indicator, just for the tekkie factor, but IMO a new rider has more important things to pay attention to.

2. My 30 year old Yamaha had self-cancelling signals, but I don't really miss them. They're a compromise. They time out after a set time/distance, so they can cancel too early if you signal in advance.

3. I've always thought separate L/R indicators were strictly for the reassurance of meddling passengers in my car. No need on a bike, right?

4. No meddling passenger on my bike. It does make a good tail bag attachment.

5. Black is fastest.

I agree with Jgangoo's recommendation for self-cancelling turn signals. I'm pretty good most of the time, but for those times when I forget to cancel my signal, I feel like an idiot. Plus, it's a potential safety issue which could lead to accidents.

My sportster had great self-cancelling signals. Very intelligently sensed when you had completed your turn.

I'd also really love a centre stand, but I realize most sport bikes don't come with one. It's just ridiculous not having a centre stand on any bike with a chain. I freaking hate the lube-roll backwards-lube-roll backwards routine. I'll be ordering a centre stand in the spring.

gear indicator, i will own up to my noob-ness here (true story).

i had one on it from factory, that is until i went over 6 miles.
then i had a 7th, 8th, 9th...... :banghead:

I agree, the grab bar sucks. The gear indicator was available in the 80s as standard equipment, what happened, was it too expensive to keep? I have to admit I have tried for a 7th gear quite a few times. I find the turn signal indicator is lousey like the first poster wrote. Every other bike I have owned showed which side was blinking. You would think with LCD instruments that this would be an easy addition.:iconbeer:

Someone said that they make a blinker cancellation module that can be added very easily , senses turn and lean angle then cuts off .
My biggest would be MORE HORSEPOWER , never had a bike with gear indicator , others would be thicker padding on seat , more rise in handle bars and more comfort for taller people , bikes are built for midgets (please do not take offense to statement) in mind .

I sort of disagree a little with this statement, my dad is 6'3" and said he fits better on this bike than he did my vStar. His opinion though, may just be how he is built to that height vs others.

I do think a gear indicator would be useful, i try for 7th all the time. I don't really care if it tells me which way i'm signaling but I got so used to the self cancelling signals on my vStar that I wish they were on the sportbikes, why aren't they?

An option for having fully adjustable suspension would be nice and it would be cool to have the option to tune the engine back up to the specs of the R6 it was taken out of.

I TOTALLY understand everything everyone is saying but lets quickly go back to what the bike was intended by yamaha. Not only a beginners sport bike but also an ENTRY LEVEL sportbike..and what else comes with ENTRY LEVEL....

PRICE POINT.... all these extras add to the cost. I remember when I was buying mine. Cost was an attraction for me as well with this bike. a fairing bike for 7k ish! woo hooo. They want to get you into riding for a reasonable price and hope people become brand loyal and go from there. Before this I was a Suzuki guy ( dirtbikes) but yamaha had the right bike at the right price point.

not saying anyone is "wrong" just reminding everyone of the purpose and why we dont get/have alot of bells and whistles and trick parts!'

Something to consider , the V Star (650) mentioned has a lot of bells and whistles and cost about the same as a FZ6R , so entry level ? Why would a Cruiser that cost about the same have the Cool Stuff but not a entry level Sport Touring ? Cost less to produce all the Chrome on the Cruisers than the plastic on the FZ6R ?
Just saying bike classes are weird , you get more in one class (styles) than the other .
Oh and a V Star is built for even shorter people I know my wife has one and has to have that low of bike to touch the ground on .

Requirements for a beginners bike? I would like an adjustable windscreen, not motorized, but adjustable.

My only let down was that the bike didn't have anything remotely passing a real helmet holder.

I hope someone makes hard saddlebags for under $400 in the next year.

Maybe a beginners bike should have removable sliders.

I'm sold , that is a good idea .
Now just getting the brilliant people at Yamaha to do it , you know they are so much more in tune to what we want than we are . (Sarcasm)
