Rain hit S. Florida really hard right before dinner last night. So when things calm down a bit, me and my wife decide to go to one of our favorite Italian joint and get few goodies at the grocery store on the way back. As we were driving I could see that the drain were over work and some street were partially flooded on the right hand side of the road. We were taking it easy... As we turn in the strip mall parking lot I can see there was a fair amount of water... I just took a little swing I didn't think having 5-6 inches of water for about 10 ft long won't be an issue... $hit hit the fan right there!!!!!!:banghead:

Half way in the car stalled! I tough the engine might have swallow a bit of water and just stalled. Try to crank it... nothing. So I decide to get out the car and check things out under the hood. The water was all the way to the rocker panel (6" of water) I checked things out under the hood... nothing majorly wrong there... So I went to the back to try to push the car out of the water since I was almost out. By the time I get at the rear of the car I had water all the way above my knees!!! After few attempt we end up calling a friend to get a ride home. Drove the 6R to work and get my other car that I left at work on Friday. Get to the injured car, remove the plugs and try to start it just to remove the water that was trap in the cylinder. Nothing... So I put the car in gear and push it back and forth... then the water came out about 10 ft in the air! Start again and the engine was spinning freely. I re install the spark plug back in air try to start it again... HiiiiIhiiiiiHiiiiiHiiiiiii!!!! I knew right there that things were bad...

I end up going back at work, picking up the truck and 26 ft trailer and toe my Suzuki back at work.

From there I had 3 scenario

1- The timming chain skip 1 tooth and it's out of sink (was hoping)
2- It skip more than that and I bend few valves (most possible...)
3- Hydro lock the engine so bad that I bend few rods and engine is done!

Well, all I can say is I didn't sleep that good!

Got to work early and unload the car... Rip the valve cover off, spark plug out, put the car in gear and try to turn the engine... not happy! So looking at the way the cam lob are facing... no good, so I remove both cams, I'm thinking I'll put the engine at TDC and re install the cams were they should and try to turn the engine over...

As I try to find the TDC with a long ratchet extension I can see something is wrong. Every piston are at a different height! 1" between cylinder 1-4... I push down on cyl 4 and the piston when down 1"

Now I had to shop for a "hopefully good engine" Really suck! That motor was top notch!!! 125 000 miles, been changing oil (Mobile Synt 0W20) every 10 000 miles and the engine was barely burning 1/2 a quart... was perfect.


Life suck sometime... every time you think that you finally get your head above water and be able to breath a bit... BANG! back in the hole!

good luck, just saw this on FB too... things always break at the wrong times it seems.

Now stop trying to wheelie the cage and it might last longer next time! :D

Found an engine in Al for $850.00... waiting on shipping cost! Whatever... I'll get over it! It didn't look like a lot of water to be honest, I figure it out when I was pushing the car... I almost got my wallet all wet! The funny thing is 1/2 later the water was not there anymore. Bad karma... I think I need to do a list like Earl's...

I have an exhaust in the box ready for shipping anyone...

sorry buddy. Water is funny that way, it can be expanded to ice and even further to steam, but it does NOT compress. On the plus side I was in Florida and all I can say is thank god for ldw on the rental lmao!!!! I drown a car and had 3 out of 6 cylinders hydro locked! Rental company was not so happy with me but oh well, get me a new car.

I knew right away that I hydrolock the engine. That's why I remove the plugs and empty the cylinder at first... never tough I'll bend connecting rods!!! I'll put the other engine in then open up this one to see if it can be fixed. If all it need is a set of connecting rod and few bits... Look like aftermarket stuff to me. I might rebuild the engine brand new and put it back in... we'll see. But fir now, it sucks!!! :banghead:

I am very very sorry to read this Martin. However just thank your lucky stares that you were able to fix this yourself. If it was me I would be out alot more $$ than you....towing bill,,someone to check it out,,, someone to replace the engine,,ETC. Now I am not trying to make you situation sound any better but I wish I had your skills and knowledge. Laurie.

If something can go wrong, it will, and at the worst possible time.

Sorry for the tough luck there Martin...but chin up. Tomorrow is just another day that gets a chance to kick you while your down.

Its not the problems we "have" that make us who we are. Its how we deal with them.

You don't have to take that crap. Go kick their proverbial asses.

Life sucks...well you know the rest.

I haven't change an engine in a rusty cager in about 15 years. Wasn't missing it! Looking forward to another 15, or more! :mad:

Don't worry, I'm not gonna let that $hit box get the best out of me.... she's going down! :rant:

125 000 miles maintenance

Rear wheel bearing DONE
Front wheel bearing NEXT
Engine should be here tomorrow, Saturday or Monday... who knows? Just got the tracking #... will know for sure in the morning.

Typing is a good therapy! :surrender:

Ok, The zuki has been back alive and running for the last 3 days. So far so good. I'll do another oil change over the weekend and recheck few things. I still need to string it (Wheel alignment)

Now for the more mechanically incline of you I have a question. The engine is mechanically running fine. But it run a little fat. It kind of load itself up at low rpm and clean up as it rev up. Most of anybody will not notice, but I do. Since the other engine swallow about 2 gals of water... I have a feeling that the Mass Air Flow sensor might have take a hit... at low rpm (slow flow...) I can feel the engine is not as sharp as it use to and I can occasionally feel a little flat spot every now and then.

So before I go out and blow another $140.00 or so, I was just wondering... If anyone of you ever had these issues with a MAF going bad.

Saw it on diesels all the time in my state....idk how comparative it is to your zuki though

We had one go in an 01 Tacoma. Would be ok until a real load was on it. Trying to go up any incline we could not get over 40 mph... If you tried to gun it it would just bog out.

You can take it off and hit it with brake cleaner and that can sometimes clean anything off if its just dirty.

Humm... I like the idea ($) I'll give that a shot at first. Maybe it's just a bit dirty...

Electrical contact cleaner or non-chlorinated brake cleaner (something that leaves NO residue)

After the autopsy... Here's the verdict!

Connecting Rod failure! Cyl #4 was completely destroy and Cyl#3 look like a hockey stick!

On the other hand, the cylinder head didn't get any damage! :) Might have a chance to get few $ back on weebay...

Ah well... it's fix now!:iconbeer:
