I've been scouring the local Craigslist for a used bike for my wife and I keep seeing these bikes on there that are WAY overpriced like this gem: 2008 Kawasaki Ninja 500R (Wasilla)

$5000 for a POS 5 year old bike that cost that new, and has been dropped? :wtfgun: Are these people insane? Do they do any research before they determine a price to post? :banghead:

I think I'm acually going to respond to this and tell her how out of line this price is. I know it's a quixotic endevour, but I can't let this dumbass keep going on like this. :shakehead:

Yea some people just plain get stupid with what they ask.It usually means they dont want to sale it, and cant figure it out.I wouldn't write them.Just continue looking for your deal.My younger cousin found a pretty nice ninja 250 for $500.It honestly only needs routine maintenance.New tires, fork oil, brakes+ a tuneup.Deals are out there, it just sucks finding them

I hate the guys who say "no lowballers," then when you ask them if they'd consider coming down to something closer to the bluebook or NADA prices, send you a nasty email saying that they're sick of lowballing xxx xxxx xxxx's like you, and don't you know how much they put into their bike and there's no way they're going to sell it for as little as that, blah, blah, blah.

Best thing I ever did before starting to look for bikes is watch a few seasons of Pawn Stars. Made it a lot easier after watching those guys stare down all sorts of wannabe badasses with their tricked out cars and bikes and tell them straight out: It may be special for you, but most people aren't really going to want it that way, and they're sure not going to pay up for your custom work.

Might have belonged to Lisa Kelly from Ice Road Truckers. That would almost make it worth the money.

Met her once. Crazy snowboarder chick at the time and I guess she still sort of is. Have a tough time seeing her on a Ninja 500 though. More of a dirt-bike kind of girl.

I went on a date with Lisa back when we both lived in Kenai. She was (and still is, I'm sure) big into moto cross. She was a real sweetheart, but not too bright.

Motocross sounds right for her personality. Met her through some competitive snowboarders I used to hand out with.

Can't say much about her brightness, as everybody involved was rather drunk at the time.

My guess is the seller is either hoping to find someone stupid with money or they assume there are going to negotiate down...I have a coworker who is incredibly good at negotiating deals..he generally pays less than half what the listing price is...

Some people will make a purchase based only on low monthy payments. Before long, they own way more than the bike is worth, but instead of cutting their losses, they think they "can't afford to sell" unless they can recoup their loss.

Substitute "house" for "bike" and that's pretty much the story of the forclosure fiasco.
