I am going to get the Renthal Unltra Low bars. They are $51.99 from Motorcycle Superstore
All I did is buy a tap kit M16 x 1.25 and tap each ends (ebay). You also need a 9/16" drill bit just to oversize the hole to the right dimension (Lowes) I rode without the damper for a while and it's a big difference...

Marthy, do you have to have a tap wrench as well as the tap? I want to order it off ebay, because I am getting the Renthal bars and want the threads for the Yamaha bar ends

Ya! You can get those for cheap on ebay... don't forget to order the drill bit for the tap... the hole is too small for the tap. I did cut my handlebar because it would have been a bit too wide with the Yammy bar end. The bar end have a 1/2 shank or so. But you can get some regular bar end that fit your Renthal. I kind of wanted to keep the stock one too.
I use a adjustable wrench... a little harder but I'm sure you have the skills...

When you said the drill bit for the tap, are you talking about the 9/16" bit to open the hole up a little? I will try to order all that soon. The Renthal Bars that I am getting are the Ultra Low Bars, I think that they aren't as wide, but I will figure it out when I get them put on.

Well, I got 9/16" at Lowes... it was close enough. Just check a tap & drill chart. Get the 3 tap option, it's easier to start with the #1... finish with #3. Or just call a machine shop close to you, it might be cheaper.

I ordered a 3 tap set. I would imagine that would be enough. I did check the tap and drill chart and it calls for a 14.5mm drill, but 9/16 is very close to that so that is what I will do. Just have to wait for this stuff to get here.

There's 3 taps in this set. Not because you need 2 spares, it's because you need step 1, 2 and 3. Just easier to do it this way when tapping manually. Start with the more "tapper" first. This is the #1. (most important for what you need to do) You should finish it up with #2. #3 is a bottom tap. When your hole doesn't go thru... So you can make threads all the way to the bottom of the hole.
Have fun! Hey, don't forget the lube with Aluminum!!! Good old WD-40 do a great job for aluminum. If you can put your hand on some rapid tap it's even easier. Make sure it's for Aluminum, NOT STEEL!!! Go back and forth 1/4 turn at the time max, you need to "brake the chip" Don't be afraid to pull it out every turn or two to clean it up too. If you try to go too fast (get hot) it might rip the threads off. Take your time, keep it cool, keep it clean and keep it lubed!

Okay, thanks. I am sure that it will go smoothly, will definitely remember to go slow and take it easy, because I don't want to mess up $50 bars. If I have any problems I will be definitely letting you know.

Check out twisted throttle pullback and risers for our bikes. Put them on over 1,000 miles ago, and can not tell you the comfort level. Perfect. No changing of cable needed. 20 minute job. Twisted Throttle is the Co.
