GoPro Mounting?

Just picked up a new GoPro 3 Black with a bunch of attachments and the suction base but not sure were to mount it. I can't stick it on my helmet because of Washington state laws, I have a tinted windscreen so I'd rather not be looking through it. I did ride in this morning with it suction mounted on the side just above the LH blinker but it looks like it may vibrate a little too much. I forgot my cable at home so I can't look at the video till I get home from work tonight.

Also is there any free video software I can download better than Windows Media Player for the GoPro. I would have thought GoPro would come with some sort of software.

I've been making Windows Live Movie Maker work. It's simple to use but not that powerful. A friend gave me an old copy of PowerDirector I've been messing with. It can certainly do much more than MM, but even moving clips around is cumbersome and more complicated than it should be.

As far as mounting, I've got a helmet mount, but I know you said you couldn't use one. I've done side of the bike or tank with the suction cup, but take a lanyard or something and attach it to a mirror or something (not handlebar) since the suction cups do fail at the most inconvenient times.

Also on the subject of failures, if you tether the camera, do through the camera case itself as breaks, when they occur, are on the black plastic mounting pieces.

I thought the 3 came with Cineform or something like that from GoPro.

Get creative with the suction cup and sticky mounts. I had used the suction cup on the fairing and it didnt rattle at all.

I just use Movie Maker and it works great for what I want to do with it.

Cineform really just cuts up your footage and converts it to different formats. I don't even bother with it anymore, I just dump my raw footage into movie maker.

I always use windows movie maker that comes free on "normal" computers. I'm cheap, and it works. :zombie:

I've had good luck with the sticky mounts, they come off without hurting the paint. You can put those anywhere, but the stickies are a one time use.

I'd recommend tethering it or safety wiring it to something as well. You don't want to loose the camera going down the road.

It does kind of come with software. You can download their basic version of cinestudio or whatever it is called on their website. Personally I like Windows better though. You can also buy Adobo studio Elements - Nice, powerful and not too bad on price. I have a copy, but misplaced the disk and lost the program on the computer when I had to replace my HDD due to it crashing - need to find it.

If you are using suction cup instead of RAM mount (actually even w/ RAM) make sure you use a lanyard also so you dont lose the camera. For my GP2 I have a ram handlebar mount and a 3" and 1 1/2" arm. If straight up, the 3" gives a view relatively clear of the screen, only the bottom part of the pic has the screen.

I have my camera, my case and my RAM stuff. For the life of me though I cant seem to find my suction cup mount anymore... REALLY REALLY annoying! :banghead:

look through my pictures I put a bunch of go pro mounts on my bike...
