gas tank filler cap screws -- what happens when they are removed?

Hi:
I'm about to install a PSR 2-UP passenger bar. It came with no directions at all, but it seems totally obvious what the plan is -- take out the screws that hold the filler cap on, put on the 2-UP, and screw it back together. My question -- when I remove all of these screws, is whatever they are screwed into inside the tank going to fall into the gas? What can I do to prevent this (I have ideas, but would love to hear yours). Thanks.

Not sure? I would put a jack under the engine to make sure it does fall off. LOL Does it comes with longer screws? it should...

Actually, they only hold the transmission on. The engine is attached separately.

Yep, came with longer screws. My thought was to leave the middle original screw in place, file down the 2-up (there are little bevels that sorta dive into the existing holes to secure the bar, so the middle one would have to go), so the inside-the-tank piece is never set free. I'm assumeing that the fuel splash basket is part of whatever these screws go into, so holding on to it would keep the inside-the-tank piece from getting away. Seem reasonable?

As per this diagram, you have nothing to worry about falling in the tank. It is a single assembly that is installed on a lip that is on the outside of the tank. The only thing that can fall in the tank would be if you dropped one of the screws in there. To remedy that problem, just stick a clean rag in the opening of the tank to prevent dropping anything down in it.
