Freeze-out - Thermals - Review

considering winter is upon us I wanted to spend a few minutes and recomend a few items for those who are unsure if it is worth the $$$

I was faced with a dificult choice. park my bike all winter or invest $$ in some cold protection and do what I love (Ride) and at the same time save on GAS.

So I recently purchased a few thermanls that are designed for motorcyclist at cycle gear that I highly recomend!

I skimped on the gloves and socks I figured the winter gloves & leather boots would do. during my first few rides with these thermals the only place the cold got to me was my fingers and feet so I will be going back for these two items.

thanks JT. I will be doing a touring ride soon with almost all of it in cold weather (30-50 degree F). I've been considering some of that freeze-out gear. glad to see it works, but do you recall the temperature you were riding in? thanks!

Good point I should have mentioned the temp.

My recent riding with this gear was between 50 and 55 degrees F
I can tell you that I have ridden in the same temp without that dear and 3X the layers in shirts and sweaters and that made me quit riding for a few years once you freeze like that riding is not enjoyable and causes pain.

if your touring you may want the heated gloves though

Rode this morning... 41 degrees, and very windy (30mph winds). Had on the Freeze-Out long johns, w/Kevlar jeans, and the Freeze-Out neck guard.
My legs didn't feel any cold at all, and my neck was fine, except for the areas the neck guard left exposed, which were quite a few. I'll keep the long johns, but, I'm swapping the neck guard for either the neck wrap, or a Schampa fleece neck gaiter.

I'll probably be picking up the Freeze out glove liners and a new pair of gloves... maybe a new winter jacket, at the motorcycle show, this weekend.

P.S. Whomever decides to buy the Freeze-Out long johns -- I'd recommend going for one size larger than you think is necessary... More for where the waist rides when you're riding, than the overall size of the long johns...

LOL. That's an average summer day temp for me. I may or may not put my jacket liner in at those temps. Definitly don't wear long johns, and certainly don't wear my warm gloves, just my GP+ ones.

I did just buy the same Freeze Out long johns, and I got the zip up jacket with the detachable sleeves so I can ride when it's in the 30's. Haven't tried them out yet. I hope to when I get back home in a few days if the roads are dry.

50-55 is BEAUTIFULL Riding weather here! I will use my winter gloves at that temp, but I dont use my grip heaters yet.

I know Nasty has worse, but try the 23-28 it has been n the morning before I leave for work lately! Getting ready to put my bike up in the next week or two probably.. Already started putting stabil in every tank I fill up just in case.
I will not ride if temp is below 33 though.. Dont want to risk finding a hidden ice spot and going down.
Even had snow here a little on Saturday.

Oddly, my feet never get cold while I'm riding. It may be the vibrations help keep them warm. :don'tknow:

it’s all about being acclimated to your current weather. I’m not accustom to the 50 deg F. most of my chilly morning rides where around 65+ so dropping 15 in a week takes some getting time and its defiantly enough to make me go buy thermals.

Anyhow not bragging nor competing in any way just sharing this line of products that I found extremely helpful.

If anyone has experience with the glove liners (freeze out or other brands), please let me know what temp you rode in and what your experience was with them. I freely admit to being a wuss when it comes to chilly weather. Brrrrr.

So yesterday I went and bought the freezout glove liners and boot liners as well. they made a world of diffrience. as mentioned before yesterday after my ride in 50 deg wather for about 30 minutes my hands got cold fingers started to feel some pain, now today same temps same duration of ride my hands where fine the liner did its job very satisfied. only comment is that glove may fit too tight when worn with liner.

Thanks for feedback JT. I see they're on sale for $14.99 and and have lots of positive reviews online except for the common problem of the seam ripping apart. Hopefully won't be a problem for you (or for me when/if I buy them).

Cycle Gear's freeze out glove liners are not very warm at all. Bought some last season on sale. They fit fine underneath my Knox Handroids. But they did nothing as far as helping keeping my hands warm up in ACH during the winter. At least they were cheap.
