So my Dad and I were talking the other day about how it would be so cool to be able to have a bike for whatever kind of riding you wanted to do. (We were watching Cafe Racer and Billy Joel was on and talking about the collection he has.) All around bikes, like the FZ6R are usually kind of a "Jack of all trades, master of nothing." It can do a lot of different things well, but not the best at any of them. That is what I like about this bike. I can take it to a track and be relatively competitive, I can carve canyons with just about anyone, yet I can ride it on multi-day trips covering thousands of miles. But it's not as good as a lot of other bikes are at any of those things. I'm sure I'd be faster at the track pushing the limits with a true supersport, I could keep the same pace I have in the canyons and be even farther from my limits on the streets on a bigger, higher end streetbike, and I could ride farther and more comfortably on a bike built for distance riding. So I started thinking. Money no object, if I could build a garage full of bikes for the various types of riding I like to do, what would it look like. I realized quickly I'd need to win the Lotto to do so because I really love all aspects of motorcycling. So here's my list of the types of riding I like to do (or would like to do) and the bike I'd like to get for it.
Street Bike - Modern:
I love naked bikes for the street. Many of them are just plain mean looking and have attitude. Non more IMO than the Ducati Streetfighter. Performance like a superbike, but a little more comfort and just pure aggression in the styling.
And one with the chick just for the hell of it
Street Bike - Cafe:
I love cafe bikes. The old British bikes, old 60's and 70's Japanese bike, raw, naked, and just cool. I'd love to build one some day. And the CB750 would be the bike I'd love to build. Something like this.
Track Bike:
Gotta have a track bike. Pure sportbike, no mirrors, no plate, pure performance. So many good ones out there, but I just would love to get a hold of a BMW s1000rr HP4. Pretty much a race bike made street legal.
Touring:
The older I'm getting and the more long trips I'm taking, the more and more I'm enjoying just going. No need to drag a knee, no need to hurry up and get through a canyon loop. Get on the bike and ride. For days on end. There's nothing like riding your bike to places you've never been. To different states, or even countries. I've learned that in the last year with the two trips I've done with my Dad. Cruisers are good for that kind of riding. But being that I like to go fast too and I'd like to be able to pull off the road if I wanted and ride that dirt road up there to get a good view, I want an adventure bike bad. And from everything I've seen and read, you can't top the BMW R1200GS. Quite honestly, this is the bike that's top of my wish list right now. This is an all around bike that is actually really good at most things and the best at others.
Dirtbike:
I've always wanted a dirtbike. I learned to ride on a CRF450. I was slow, I was tentative, but I didn't crash it, only stalled it a couple times on my first try, and kept her upright. Now that I have a lot more miles under my belt and a Supermoto class as well. I want to try the dirt again. So I'd love to get a hold of a CRF250r to go play in the desert with all my desert rat friends lol.
SuperMoto:
And finally for $#its and giggles, I'd love to have a SuperMoto if nothing else just for the fun you can have on one. I've rarely had more fun on a bike than the day I spent at SoCal SuperMoto School in Riverside on DRZ400's. Heavy (for a SuperMoto) and under powered, yet still a blast. I know a couple of guys who've raced KTM450sm SuperMoto's. I mean look at this, how can you not have fun. lol
So that's my dream collection. Anyone else want to share? I'd love to see what others have in mind.
