Danmoto 3D Clipons? Advice?

Danmoto 3D Clipons - my experience

Jump to page 3 for riding impressions and a look at final install



Before everyone jumps down my throat "YES, I've searched and gone through every thread on here with clip ons, FZ1 bars, street fighter conversions, etc many times." Got some heated grips, figured it's a good time to do bars too.

Figured I was gonna go FZ1 bars, but I love the look of clip ons and how narrow they are. I've got my bike down about an inch in the front, but I don't really want to lower it more. The I found Danmoto clip ons under $100. Found one person on here who has the adjustable Danmoto 3D clipons but his pics stopped working and can't get a hold of him. Anyone have any experience with these?

3D Clip On 41mm Black [HD-00009] - $74.52

It looks like I can attach them under the triple and still have room to adjust them to clear the fairing (or maybe it's time to finally try a street fighter). VERY adjustable (watch the first animation). I think I might order them. Anything I'm not seeing?? Pros/cons/anything before I pull the trigger??

If you get them, let me know how they work out! I have 1 inch lowered in the front as well and was thinking about clip-ons.

They look a lot like the apex clip ons. I have woodcrafts on mine and love them. Never liked the stock bar.

I'm not sure if they have enough length to go under the triple tree but I would definitely be anxious to see someone try it. I think I am pulling the trigger on a set of these before spring.

45mm rise is 1.77 inches. Definitely not long enough to go under the triple. Dakine did it with 3 inch rise Apex, but also had to modify the plastics. You get a better ride dropping the front and installing the clipons in my opinion, but I know there are those on here that swear that it isn't good. I've had mine on for 2 seasons now ( I think) and not one problem. Just don't lower more than you really need and make sure the forks are perfectly adjusted to mirror each other.

FINALLY got my clip ons. So far quality seems really good. They definitely won't work under the triple with fairings on. At full height extension they are fairly close to stock bar height (when rolled down as low as possible). One good thing is everyone says you need 1.5 inches of fork to attach most clip ons. I am down about 1 inch and these are about 1 inch. Perfect!

It has been snowing/raining/sleeting off and on. I'll try to get out to the garage to take some pictures later. Of course, you know me, installation and adjustment video to come :D

eagerly awaiting pictures, going back and forth about clip ons. Going to talk to my local shop guy about them and lowering the front and possibly the back. I have been manhandling the bike (or maybe it's manhandling me) being 5'7, I look kind of silly moving it around while I'm not on it. Kind of like wrestling with it. It's doable but I may just get a lowering link and see what happens.

Lowering the front is super easy. It's just a matter of loosening the bolts just enough to move and not drop or it will make more work. I have woodcraft clip-ons and love them. The lowering links are supposed to be pretty easy as well. I'm 5'10 so not a whole lot taller and reach isn't an issue. You can literally lower the front in about 5-10 minutes. Would be best to lower the the front now and turn bars down (also super easy). You can rotate the bars toward you in effect lowering them slightly, this along with the drop in forks will give you almost the same affect of having clip-ons. If you don't like it then you're not out time and money. If you decide to do it let me know and I can walk you through it.

Dropping the front an inch was one on the best mods I did to the bike... best free one for sure!! Although that topic is in many other threads, you will need to drop an inch to accommodate these clip ons.

They are "3D" clip ons because they are adjustable on 3 pivots.
#1 around the fork tube
#2 the riser
#3 the clip on off the riser
It seems like if you can't find a comfortable position with these, you need a different bike!! This is especially true since at the highest level it's very near factory bar height.

Not yet. Work, family, snow... I've been so busy I can barely see straight. I can yank the old bars and mock up the clip ons, but it's probably gonna be a few weeks til I drill them and move the controls over. Just so busy and tired that if I get an hour of peace I'll spent it on the couch instead of in the garage.

I'll admit it, if the weather was nice, those b!tches would be installed already.

Okay, just curious how they turned out if done. They look almost just like the Apex so I imagine will look similar mounted. My Woodcrafts are similar, but not adjustable other than rotating the bars or moving the collar slightly. I have them set to clear everything though. Doesn't take long at all to install, but where I spent a lot of time was loosely mounting and measuring for controls. I'm waiting on cams and new airbox to do the FZ6 cam swap and airbox mod/including short V stacks. Can't wait! Feel like a kid at Christmas.

Definitely measure twice cut once so to speak. I measured 3 or 4 times before committing. Here's how I marked each side. First install the clamp on the fork and make sure fork height is identical (headshake and handling will suffer otherwise), then put the right bar on just beyond hand tight. Place the right side grip on where it should be normally (without the throttle tube), and place controls on the bar to see where you need them (also before this step check the clearance when moving the bars lock to lock. (may have to fine tune once levers are on). You can always rotate them once controls are on there for clearance or move the levers slightly. The placement of the hole is important though since it's not fixable. The distance should be beauty identical if not identical to the stock bar. I put the right grip on each side and measured the distance to the hole. The left grip is too tight to keep removing that's why I uses the right grip. Also you should get heavy bar ends if yours don't screw in like stock. (Suzuki heavy bar ends fit and look good in black).

Mine aren't either. The suzuki bar ends are for no drill bars. I can try to find them and put the link here. I got mine off Amazon.
