Yeah, not to happy about it but today I got let go at my job. It really bites to have this happen in todays economy, especially after devoting 2 almost 3 years there and being one of the best salesman they had. I moved to service in order to have more stable hours so I could finish my accounting degree as I, well flunked out of college when I was selling cars. I Changed my priorities as I needed to finish college. Well I just got re-enrolled and college starts today which I am excited about, but the income part is going to SUCK! Anyways I just needed to vent a little bit, and im VERY frusterated with the management from where I worked as there was ZERO warning for the termination, and just a slap on the wrist lack of performance speech as they handed me a seperation report. It baffled me as I sold the second most amount of labor last month and in the prior months as well out of the 5 guys working in service.

They have this thing called CSI which is customer satisfaction and the store gets paid SFE money at the end of each quarter if they meet a certain criteria. Well the thing is the last 2 months I hadnt recieved any returns from customers(customers who recieve them are at random, and only original owners who bought new recieve them) well I had 2 customers completely pissed off at the fact that we couldnt fix there cars(one was a misfire and the other was an electrical issue) properly and the one customer made 4 trips in with the misfire before the problem was finally diagnosed properly and fixed. Well those two people gave me 0's on the report card survey from gm, and then at the begining of last month I lose 7 4.0 surveys because they dropped off the three month average, which having 2 0's, 2 3's, 2 4's, and 1 2, dropped my score to a 1.67, which brought the store average down .04%, and a few other employee's scores as well caused us to lose $44,000 from gm, but here is the kicker, NOT ONCE did the management assist in the many times I asked for help in raising the score, and not ONCE did they give a single warning of termination. I just dont understand when an employee is asking for help in any way shape or form and the management brushes it aside for a month or two, then they realise oh crap were going to lose money, how they fathom to get rid of their second best sales rep? They didnt even try to help :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

UHG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

any ways I have a whole mix of emotions right now and IDK what to do. I filed for unemployement immediately cuz in minnesota it takes like 2 weeks before it even starts, I called all the connections I have for jobs and waiting on some responses, and filled out a few applications already today but G*D this sucks! Almost 3 years!!!:spank:

Sorry to hear about that Cautious. I guess that the economy in the States is still worse than here in Canada. I was fortunate enough to get hired in 1978 and stayed with the same company till October of 2008. For now I am sure it seems pretty bad, but I am just as sure that another door will open and bring you new horizons. You are a smart guy, somebody will notice.

sounds like an appropriate time for the tried and true burning bag of poop...

just think of it as them giving you the opportunity focus on school and use it to get a better job then they ever could offer you

almost 30 years in the work force and i can say for sure that i never left a bad job for a worse one each new one always turned out for the better in the end

Sorry to hear about you getting let go. It may make you feel like crap but as the cliché goes - when one door closes, another opens. Just have to wait for your break man.

Sending you a ton of positive thoughts.

Take care.

Thanks alot herbie and NoDoze, keepin positive thoughts! got one offer to go sell cars for my old boss, but idk if I want to sell cars again, or do I take it because how crappy the economy is. :-/

In the USA do you have employment insurance? Here in Canada after working so many week you can apply for E.I. and the Gov't will suplement your income until you get a job.

That does suck. If it makes you feel better, when companies down size they always have to tell you you are leaving because of a good reason, like performance. Don't even let that bother you.

Take the first job that comes up and keep looking for others.

Actually, if you are downsizing, it's much easier to tell the employee that, and a perfectly legal reason for terminating employment. I know, I have been downsized (thank you internet bubble bursting). If an employer wants to terminate your employment for poor performance, they have to have it well documented, in order to avoid a wrongful termination law suit.

Mass lay-offs for performance only happen if you work for Jack Welch, former CEO of GE. He was famous for his program of laying off the bottom 10% of low perfomers at General Electric - EVERY YEAR.

I would think that is akin to going on unemployment here in the US.

I was on unemployment for a little bit back in 2003. Then I got stir crazy after a week and a half and worked as a bouncer / bar back in Hartford just so I got out of the house for something other than job interviews. The $1 drinks when you weren't working made up for the crap pay, and made it easy to get out and keep being sociable. Also, since it was part time work, the government still payed unemployment benefits minus something like 4/5 of what you made part time (not 100% sure what the amount was, it was many beers ago).

Anyways CC, get back on the horse, find a new job quick, and work hard in school. As someone who is back in school now (at age 31), I know it's a PITA balancing work, school, and social obligations. I had a boss once tell me "You'll never find that you have more time or less responsibilities if you wait to do something". It was his polite way of saying "Get you @$$ back in school!"

On a side note, what school starts in April? All the schools around here start semesters in either September, or late January, with some summer and winter classes in June and December. Anyways, good luck!

Rasmussen business college. And thanks for all the help guys, yes I did file for unemployement. The place I worked at could be sued easily for wrongful termination but Idk if its really worth it.

I'd say a lawsuit is probably a lost cause and a waste of money. The facts that they had the survey cards that were a metric of your performance, that you understood that they were a metric of your performance, and that your employer lost money because of the survey scores all add up to a pretty strong defense for your former employer against wrongful termination. It's probably best to put the whole thing behind you and move on to bigger and better things.

Well the ownsers daughter who is one step below the gm is the one who admitted to it not being a fair termination and there wasnt a whole lot of reason for the termination, other than the new manager was told to come up with a plan and start it monday morning! but anywho onto the good news

Got four job offers, two which hold some good value

One is for toyota car sales from a very good dealership which is pretty low key with an open floor which means you can sell new and used along with come and go as you please. Quota starts at 8 and $1500 is base payout.

The next is the big dog...they called me 3 weeks ago and I turned the job down only to get fired this past monday. I called them monday and they said they thought they had the position filled, the person came in wensday morning and asked them to go home they had found someone better suited, which was me and they called me back!!!! The job is an aftermarket manager at a Buick pontiac gmc store, and they sell a TON of trucks out of this store. So we sat down and negotiated for about 3 hours yesterday and talked about the job, and on monday they are going to present me with their offer. Im looking to get between $2500 and $3000 base draw plus 25% commisions on gross profit. So on a weak D!ck month id make $3500-$4000 and a good month $5-6000!

Awesome! Brings new meaning to the whole, "everything might be for the better" argument.

Next time, get yourself canned for sleeping with the bosses daughter like everyone else. No more survey card stuff! :p

:wav:
It didn't take very long for things to turn around. Congratulations!
