Hey everyone recently got my first ever bike an 09 fz6r and the dude told me it was a 5 speed 1 down 4 up but everything coming up online says 6 speed is there anyway I can easily find out without damaging the bike?

Ride it. 6 speed. 
1 down, 5 up. You could always read the handbook that came with the bike, available on line as a PDF
