09 fz6r only 5 gears?

Hi guys,

I purchased a used fz6r with ~3500 km on it last month.
I can only go up to 5 gears even though Owners Manual and all online sources say it should have 6 gears.

The previous owner did not modify anything on the bike.
What could be the reason for this?

I'm assuming you know the gear pattern is 1 down 5 up?

If you bought it from a private party you might be f'ed. If you bought it from a dealer, go take it back!

Try counting them again. 1 down and 5 up. Make sure you are moving fast enough to get it into the last gear. If just trying to do it at a stop, it is hard to go through all the gears. Once you are in first... it will only go UP 5 gears.

If still not.. change the oil and filter. Dirty oil can screw with shifting. Also make sure your clutch lever is properly adjusted with the correct amount of slack per the owners manual.

as JSP said.... speed is a factor if still having issues definitely try an oil change. after that have it checked

To expound on what another said; if you're counting times shifting, it'll be five times up or down from top to bottom. 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 4-5, and 5-6. Neutral is a half-shift between 1 and 2. However, if you're only getting four shifts from top to bottom, then you've got a problem.

Maybe post a pic of the bike, so we can confirm you've got a FZ6R?

Also check speed vs RPM. 6th gear at 100 km/hr engine should be at around 5500 RPM.

I counted again today and everything seems correct. 1 down and 5 up.
