Doing my first oil change

Doing my first oil change need help ASAP !!!

Got the bike to 11,425 gonna do my first oil change what oil you guys recommend? Regular or full synthetic? Oil filter im going with will be the k&n. Been looking online and have no clue what oil I'm suppose to be running at this mileage. Also is the k&n air filter worth it?

I'm at 20k and still using the dino 10W40 Yamalube and the KN-204 filters. The K&N filters a good, but keep in mind that you need to periodically check that the oil is still tacky or it won't be doing its job. So far, I've stuck with the OEM paper filters as I haven't had the space to do filter cleaning and oiling until the last few months.

I used the basic filter from NAPA. And ran full synthetic 10w 40 amsoil. But honestly its all preferances, therr is no right or wrong as long as you use the right weight for the temps your riding it, 10w40 is what you use if your not familiar with the charectoristics of oil under different demands. For future referance there are about 10 million threads on this topic alone < what oil to use>

Thanks alot guys and yea I been aiming for the 10w 40 guess I'm going with that then. I mean does the k&n air filter have anything special to it or just paying for the brand?

KN is brand name mostly...plus its reusable... but you spend just as much on chemicals to clean and re oil that filter as you would on new filters, so its a wash...in my opinion...

It doesn't apply here but As for turbo application KN is known to allow to much through the filter and chew up turbos.... so there is that....

Remember that oil filter will be a b!tch to get off!

Just a bit of info, i cut the tab of the fairing that covers the filter off so i didnt have to remove them every oil change. I ran stock filters even in my modified airbox

Noobie question, but how much oil does the FZ6R actually need?
With and without filter replacement?

My bike has done 200 miles since new, is it recommended to change the oil after breaking in the first couple hundred miles or is that not necessary? (back in the day you had to, but these days everything is so refined...)

why would you change the oil without changing the filter?

about 3.5 qts. I always do break in oil changes... anywhere from 500 to 1000 miles

I've seen a page on the owners manual specifically for this. During what intervals etc. If you have the manual give it a look.

The brake in period it's 1,000 km (600 miles), after that you may change the oil and the oil filter, because there are metal particles in the oil.

Oil quantity:
With oil filter replacement: Almost 3 qt.
Without oil filter replacement: 2.5 qt.

I use Yamalube Semi-synthetic 10W-40

You can get a free PDF of the owner's manual from the Yamaha website. It lists the oil change intervals, procedures, and quantities.
