My dad had them, and he said they were a huge hassle to deal with on the accident that wasn't even his fault. Turned me off from ever going with them. I personally have Progressive, and couldn't ask for better service. Always have taken good care of us, and I have good rates.
See that was what I was wondering. Sometimes cheaper insurance comes at a price.

I've never had to file a claim (besides 1 windshield) on any vehicle or house of mine. But no sooner I switch.....

"Luckily" they are not available in illinois. I have country financial.

I had rider when I totaled my bike just recently. The day that I crashed was a sunday someone was very helpful over the phone with everything they told me the next day my agent working my claim would call me. Sure enough they did and the following day an adjuster came out. Then within 2 days I had a call with the verdict being that it was totaled and had my offer the same day after I faxed over bill of sale. Honestly these guys are very fast! When someone totaled my car (rearended) there insurance company liberty mutual took them a month JUST to deem that it was totalled then another couple weeks to get me an offer then few more weeks to get my payoff+ extra. My bike will most likely be payed off next week as I also have to deal with gap insurance but Rider was very fast on there end as they're mailing out there part this week!

Mods, I put this in New Rider Q & A cause I thought it would be helpful. Feel free to move this thread somewhere else.

I just saved a ton of money on my bike insurance by switching to......

I've been thinking about getting more insurance or comprehensive for a while, but I originally got quotes in the $1500/year range. This is a 28 year old, married, teacher, with a garage, living in a "questionable" crime area.

Anyway, after 1 point on my license for going 9mph over in my cage (and the cop came to court and made sure it stuck) my current insurance went up maybe $50. Looking at a bill right now of just over $500 a year for me and my wife's Ninja 250 (about $60) for only liability, theft, and state minimum. I go down, I pay for all repairs. Decided to jump on the Rider Insurance website and get some quotes.

$240 a year for comparable 30/60/15, $500 deductible and they'll fix the bike if I go down even if it's all my fault, roadside assistance with flat bed towing, battery jump, etc. Are you serious? I called them to make sure I wasn't missing an extra zero in the price. Best part is, I can get full coverage, beef up my insurance, and still save money!

If you aren't on rider or haven't checked out their stuff, DO IT.
+1 for rider insurance.

Currently paying $186/yr for full coverage $100 deductible with Erie. Though, I also have 4 vehicles, home, personal property, boat and life with them. They treat me well.
