Hey guys. So I've been looking for a sports bike with well rounded features and that doesn't suck to insure. Turns out I fell in love with this bike :)

So I'm looking at one tomorrow.... but since my budget is limited i found one that is pretty cheap.

-It's on 09 with 40,000 miles (thats what I'm worried about)
-Claims that the miles are mostly highway.
-Says tires are good and he has used synthetic oil constantly
-No oil leaks or mechanical problems
-Says it has never been wrecked or even dropped (pictures are pretty high quality and there doesn't look to be a scratch on it.)
-Claims to have a clean title
PRICE = $3850

Soooo, what do you all think? I really love this bike and this looked to be a good deal. I will of course do a thorough check at the chain, sprocket teeth, fairings, engine sound, ect....

Any other tips? As i have about $4K to spend on a bike, this is perfect and i know that these are worth more than that.

Here are pics of the exact bike (on craigslist) = 2009 YAMAHA FZ6R YELLOW photo, picture, image on Use.com

Thanks a ton guys!!! I REAAAALY hope this is a good deal and theres nothing funny about it cuz I love the FZ6R already! :D

I have a 2009 Mazdaspeed 3 (bought new with less than 100miles) that is my daily driver to work (well not as of late since I got my new 6R lol) and my car just broke 30k miles. That's about 3/4 freeway and 1/4 city driving.

That person spent a lot of saddle time in that bike. Now, it doesn't mean it wasn't taken care of though. I've seen pictures of other 6R owners that have 60k+ miles and the bike still runs strong. So that's a plus.

But yea, I would probably keep checking around on craigslist or cycle trader for deals on a used 6R, because you could probably get one for 4K with a lot less miles.

Or hey, if you really like that bike, see if the guy will come down 800-1000 (probably wont though).

Some thoughts..

The Yellow R looks to be in good condition. I like the fact that it is not heavily modified. The owner can tell you almost anything but having proof is best. Service records would be good. After U decide on which model to buy--you basically buy the seller. Does he have the means to keep the bike in great shape? The only thing that bothers me is where he lives. A apartment in Hacienda Heights..not the best area.
I would be very careful and take 24 hours to decide after looking at the bike.

There is a white 09 in Corona with 15K and lots of good stuff. Take a look. Good luck with your search..

Yes, 40k isnt really anything for these.... BUT that is about the going rate for 09's...with a lot less miles. I would wait a bit and keep your eye open. Or get him closer to $3k.

Wow, that's gotta be the fastest responses I've gotten on any forum. Appreciate it for sure. Yeah before I go I'll ask about the pics and service records.

I'll see how low he will go. If you guys say that there are bikes around the same price with even half the miles, I'll take a look.

IF - he has service records and the pics are current, would u guys think $3500 is reasonable?

He was also selling a cbr600 so that makes me think he had a comuting bike and a toy on the side. If so perhaps this bike was not abused? I dunno, just thinking out loud.

I bought my 2009 6R for $3000 even. Had 5080 miles on it. Had some scratches on the plastics but mechanically sound. 40,000 is alot of miles but if it was taken care of u can get 40,000 more.

After looking at it and running it, I'd offer him $3K and tell him it's because of the high mileage and the fact that if you do the same as him in the next 3 years it'll be 80K miles and you'll really struggle selling it for much, not to mention the amount of service it will require in the next couple of years. If he says "No", leave him your number and tell him to call you if he changes his mind. Chances are he's not going to sell it for more than $3500, and if you keep an eye on it, he'll probably come down significantly if he really needs to sell it.

The key is to not be sold on it when you look at it, act concerned about the high mileage, and make that obvious to him. Be willing to walk away.
