for the gun folk

I often wonder what I will grab if someone were to enter my home...

so many choices....

the sound of the shotty is unmistakable (but I only get 5 shots...)
the menacing look /accuracy and 30rnds of the ar15
the maneuverability of the pistols...

hmm, strap the ar15 to the back, holster the pistol, rack the shotty? :rof:

Put a shell extender on the shotty and you have 8 in the mag and one in the chamber. Great for home defense with 00 buckshot in it.
AR15 can't be beat for skirmishes but unless we get a revolution here, kinda useless for home defense.
pistols are excellent to about 25' in a shootout but the rounds go through walls so ya got to be careful if ya miss the target.

Most people depend on a pump shotgun for the sound when racking a round to scare off the bad guy and because a scattergun negates accuracy in a situation where you might be shaking like a leaf.
When release the bolt on a semi-auto shotty that sound is unmistakable too and the number of rounds you can get off far exceed what the pump can produce. Gotta love that racking round sound in the pumpy tho....

unfortunately, I can't do the extender... fortunately, I got mine at a great price (something under $300 instead of the $400-450 they were going for). Just the way they made that model, it's not really upgradeable, just is what it is.

I'm fine with 5 rounds (plus I added a side mount shot carrier for quick reloads, 6-8 rounds), if I need more than that, it's a war anyway.

stock pic of what I bought. Kind of gimmicky, but fun to shoot at the range.

Dart,

For some reason I don't see the pic. What model is the pumpy?

O.F. Mossberg & Sons, Inc. - Firearms, Shotguns, Rifles, Accessories, and Precision Machining

it's the 500 (from the JIC, Just In Case line) with 18.5" barrel... even if the cap were threaded right for an extension, the extension would sit past the barrel. That's probably why they made it that way.

I could get the longer barrel and then do it, just can't add an extension alone.

I was checking that out and that is a real pain on the cheapo 500. Adding an extension is almost impossible unless you want to start mixing and matching parts and get some machine work in there too. Barrels are expensive to buy so whole new shotty is a better deal.
The newer Rem 870 and 1100 units have 2 dimples that have to be pressed, drilled or dremel'd out so the spring and shells will pass by them if adding an extension. My Bro in law had to have his done at the local gun smith because he doesn't have a dremel and was too chicken to drill it. My 1100 is so old that it is pre dimple and the extension was a no-brainer fit without any mod.

The judge seems like a good choice for me for home and self-defense, small to mid size revolver that shoots .410 shotgun rounds if you see fit. Now thats some nice stopping power or intimidation if you let one off

Here's my home defense...........you never know when the Zombie out break will happen! Mossberg 590! 12GA-9 Shot!

What does something like this run and are shotguns hard to shoot... I have a Walter P99 and that is cake to shoot, but thinking a shotgun would be a far better home defense weapon and as someone said in another post just the sound of racking a shotgun will probably scare the person off

I like to buy my guns from Insane Cannes, LLC (www.FFL4U.com). They always seem to have the best prices.

Yeah, Shotguns are simple to shoot! Do you have a Zombie problem in your neighborhood or something!?

I got a Mossberg 835 a few years back as a xmas gift from my folks. The beautiful thing about it, almost all the 500 parts fit. And it had a factory installed pictinny rail for optics. I think the fiance is gonna get me the blackhawk knoxx m4 type stock for it this year for xmas. The shotgun uses the 3.5 inch shells. If you buy the federal magnums, they have double the pellet capacity of a 2.75 incher. The 835 is also not much more than the 500. Something to think about.

Mine started off with just a pistol grip, I bought the folding stock, pump with rails, foreward grip all seperate! Still need to buy a tac light! Going with a Surefire! For anyone buying a shotgun or any weapon, if you plan on putting accesories on it make sure they make the parts for that model! Also if you have no clue how to handle a weapon..........you might want to learn before you purchase one!

and +infinity, if you haven't got a clue what you want, or how to handle a rifle/pistol/shotgun... get some training first! Most stores that sell them can point you to an NRA approved class.

A class on how to safely handle a weapon is highly recommended.
I got mine in the military but civilian safety classes are mandatory for a new gun owner IMHO. I've seen some accidents that could have been really bad but for grace of God no one was hurt.

Grew up with a Dad that hunted every Season , have handled just about every kind of firearm imaginable , he was a Gun Dealer as well , don't carry one with me , nor does my wife who is a retired Police Officer .
If you are to scared to walk around without a weapon , then maybe you should not walk around !
Funny we have had guys come out and target shoot , hunt , on our property that were from the military and I would not trust them to handle a weapon , they were scary .
