Will George Zimmerman be convicted?


Please, let's not get all bent out of shape to where the thread gets shut down. Simply answer the poll and/or comment.

I believe he will be acquitted. Why? Because after watching some of the trial I don't believe the state has proven their case "beyond a reasonable doubt" & believe Zimmerman was defending himself. If I was a juror, I would have "reasonable doubt".

I notice that today the prosecution is adding in lessor counts for the jury to consider.

What are your thoughts?

Not a chance. Too many questions - but did I read correctly that the judge is letting the jury consider manslaughter? I could see that happening, maybe.

I have no idea (don't think many have) what the 12 random for the street people can decide. The poll would be better served if it asks our personal opinion if we think he is guilty or not.

There's a new dynamic now.

Up until this morning, I would have said no, he'll be acquitted, because the Defense put up a *very* credible case, and the Prosecution's witnesses became the Defense's witnesses on cross.

However, now that it apparently has a political flavor (with Holder flying down to organize and fund a protest, and Obama saying "if I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon..." etc.), they have injected a "Child Abuse" charge AFTER the Defense rested. With Child Abuse, in Florida, you cannot use a self-defense defense. In other words, justice goes out the window and social appeasement takes over...

Another sign this country has gone upside down...

Actually, for some reason, his jury only has 6 people not 12...

I think that if a "not guilty" is given we could possibly see riots like the Rodney King days. :eek:
Sad, very sad.
Coming from an Native American who should be rioting over injustices, but we just keep gaining the land back one Casino at a time. :D

Just my 2 cents, like everyone else not trying to start anything....

I think they're going to find him guilty of SOMETHING. I think he should be innocent for murder HOWEVER I feel that George Zimmerman made a few too many bad decisions that night. I agree with the comment that if Zimmerman is found innocent that there would be riots and I believe someone will try to take his life.

And this whole political BS is... well.... :bsflag:

I don't know all the facts anyway.

What is a person walking around checking out people with a loaded gun for in the first place ? Is it a high crime area ?

What should one do when there's a person apparently aggressively stalking them ? Should you hide in a bush/alley and then jump them ?

Would someone wailing blows from above in a dirty fighting manner cause one to fear for their lives ?

I'm not from the USA, in what circumstances can a non professional carry a gun in a police function, then intimidate, then shoot to kill if the intimidated person reacts. How would I react to some dude in civilian clothes acting like Judge Dredd hassling me at night ?

I haven't tried it myself. Normally I like to try things before deciding. Seriously though, the universal and ancient principle is that the crime's of one from a group should then not be retributed on random people from that group.

I think you need a third choice, like...

Personally, I thought the Casey Anthony case was a slam dunk for a conviction, but we all know how that one turned out.

I am against rioting in all forms. As a civilized society, we accept our system of justice. It may not be perfect, but it is actually a very good system, just not perfect. Rioting solves nothing!!

As far as President Obama's comments, I don't think it is the duty of a sitting president to get involved or even comment on local law enforcement or its cases.

If the "Stand Your Ground" law needs to be challenged, there are established protocols and procedures for such challenges, ending with the Supreme Court deciding if a law is unconstitutional, not the president.

Just my two cents...

From what little I have seen, I think he gets off or maybe Manslaughter.

Off Course:
FOX News says Zimmerman is a hero and we should name a holiday after him.

While:
MSNBC says Zimmerman is a scumbag racist that should have his nuts cut off.

Got to love the American Media.:p

I'll bite.

yes. it was a high crime area, string of home robbers in that neighborhood.

guy on his cell following you... that's "aggresively stalking"? If I thought someone was following me, I'd lead them to a public area and confront... not a dark walkway

you lose the guy... the 911 op says don't follow them, you start to return to your vehicle, and get jumped... guy jumps on top of you and starts laying down punches.... at that point... do you know if he is going to stop?

in the usa, you can carry to protect yourself, family and friends.... at that point, you take on a large responsibilty, to know the law... and the burden if you ever have to use deadly force... it's not easy, we are not judge dredd... I hope to never have to use it.
The "professionals" who carry guns are supposed to be held to the same standard. They are not above us, though they, sadly would not have had this trial had it been a plain clothes cop instead of a former neighborhood watch citizen.

We do not have a good account of the situation.. we have the victors story... and that is where the trial comes in... is he truthful.... was he really jumped? Was he returning to his vehicle when he was jumped? Or did he track down the guy until he got into the confrontation. There are many holes in the events... I personally think he was on a hunt and don't buy his story.... but, if he was retreating and attacked as he says, he is in his rights to defend himself....

Stand your ground is not an open invitation to bully... it's very clear... that's where the jurors have to decide this case... was he an aggressor, or a victim... can I follow a unusual person in my neighborhood, after a string of crimes and if they attack me, defend myself? It's a tough case... not open and shut...

They were probably just getting lippy and it escalated. Both guilty to various degrees of escalating it most likely. Did he pull the gun while the guy was still on top beating down from the mount position or was it after he got off ? Who knows ? I'd hate to be the judge of that.

Personally, I don't think neighbourhood watch should be armed, whether that individual has the right or not. Because if a Policeman had told him to move along or whatever, he wouldn't have given any cheek to start with and it wouldn't have escalated.
