Where to out my license plate??

Ha ha..I know that sounds like a dumb question. I just bought a 2009 FZ6R. I finally got my new plate today. The guy that had it before had removed the original plastic fender and installed flush mount turn signals on the front an rear. He never rode the bike at all(640KM's) on it now; so he never used his plate. This is not a fender eliminator kit, just basically removed the original big Xmas tree plastic mount fender and signal lights. Issue is that Im now stuck trying to find some simple way to fabricate the license plate to the back of the of the bike. I dont really feel like buying a fender elimnator kit, of I cant think of anything simple I will probably just remove the flush mount signal lights and install the stock plastic piece back on with the original turn signals.

Anyone have any ideas??

what do you have against a fender eliminator kit.

that would be your easiest solution, looks alot better, and not that expensive.

Is there any way that you could post a pic so that we can see exactly what the back of you 6R looks like,,,so we can give you some advice? Thanks Laurie

Thanks Laurie, I'm brand new to the site. It appears I have to load the image into a gallery on this first. I will try that.

I got nothing against the kit, it does look nice. But I just paid for the bike with cash, waited a week to get my new plate and transfer the the registration over from Nova Scotia(our neighboring province). I am tapped out of cash, plus I would have to wait another week for the kit, plus then having to fool with getting the flush mounts off and then installing the new kit.(I am not mechanically inclined) I just want to ride! The sooner I get the plate on the better. I still have the original fender, it may not look as nice but it will keep me legal. I got a response from the guy I bought it from, he said he was going to curve the plate to fit the back of the fender, then use velcro tape to strap it in their. Followed by by 1/4" metal screws. Not sure I like that or not. The plate would have to be horizantal...and not sure how noticable it would be. It would probably just sit above the rear tire. I dont want to be pulled over by the police every time I go out.

since you don't want to buy one and he already mounted up turn signals (i assume they work), i have one idea that is pretty cheap.

I think if you would get a small stick of aluminum (lowes,walmart...whatever you have up there), angle would be best, and cut it the width of the license plate, you could be done for just a couple bucks.

drill holes the width of the license plate bolts on one side, and on the other side drill holes to match up with the bolts that held the rear fender on. It is basically a FE, but you could be done with it in 10 min and it shouldn't cost more than $5.

here's what i was talking about

Hey, that looked like a really easy way to fix my issue. When I went and looked at the back of the bike I held that plate up where it would be mounted I found that the plate would actually cover the lights. You basically would'nt be able to see the signal lights at all. lol.....

So question.....in the pics above where he mounted the flush mount lights I assume he he drilled holes to mount those? If I can figure out how to put the OEM fender back on....am I going to have two big holes in the top of my fender..or where the holes their originally for the original lights?

there wern't orignally holes there.

you could either:

A: put the fender back on and have two sets of turn signals, although i don't think you would see the current ones.

B: put the stock fender back on and wire the factory turn signals back in and just leave the current signals there and dead).

easy fix.. no messing around with the undertail..
Gotta make sure those are legal where you are. My friend had to order an FE since he kept getting warnings and tickets for one of those.

There is a light in the little cylinder shaped plastic piece that sticks out directly in the middle in the picture above. I was thinking of bending the plate slightly so it fits flush with the fender and sticking it with a strong industrial velcro tape just below that light. Once in place I was thinking of drilling a small hole through the plate into the back fender. Only using a 1/4 inch screw just enough to secure the plate and keep it from moving. Only question is now...when the screw punctures the plastic on the back of the fender... even just barley what lies behind it...? I just ordered my owners manual so I'm not sure if that is the battery or if the air filter is directly behind that.

Hey I did not realize that you are next to me! Finally another East Coast Canadian! Now I wonder if those rear turn signals (where they are relocated) are legal in N.B. to pass M.V.I. (motor vehical inspection). Did you buy this from a dealer or private? The air filter I think is under the gas tank,,the battery is located under your seat. Remove your seat to see it.

Hey CDN6R, funny this is my first street bike. I live in Riverview(borders Moncton) I bought the bike from an Air Canada pilot in Halifax. He flies to the UK and Israel every week so he never had time to ride it. I paid 6300 dollars for it and it now has 648 KMs on it. He has a current MVI on it now until next year from Nova Scotia. Although in New Brunswick their is no MVI needed for motorcyles. Weird I know! Here in NB you have 2 motorcyles license class. 1 for 550cc and under and another for 550 and up. Of course now I have 550cc and under so I will need to write a written test along with a road course to get my updated license. When you do the road test(basically an obstacle course) the driver examiner checks your signal lights and horn to make sure they work properly.(That the part I am neverous about...the lights all work but he\she may not like the setup...or possibly the way the plate is setup providing I can get them on their.)

The previous owner put the flush mount lights on...I never heard of anyone putting them on the rear before?? Now I'm stuck trying to figure out what to do with them. I like my previous idea...thats the idea I got from the previous owner. He said he got the idea from a local forum for NS motorcycle riders. novascotiariders.com I believe he called it.

If your ever out in the Moncton area look me up!
