when to change the chain

Hey guys, when should I plan to change the chain on the fz6r ?

I have 11K miles on it.

Just hit 7k and the chain/rear sprocket look fine so far

If the sprocket teeth are not starting to flare up and the chain still has its "chain like" tension, I would say it is fine. I check my sprockets every time I grease the chain... every 500-600 miles normally.

I was right at 20,000 miles on my last bike when i had to replace the sprockets & chain, not sure about our FZ6R yet.

I put 10500 miles on my last set. I'm a firm believer that you need to put chain and sprocket as a set, and change them as a set. Most than likely sprocket life will determine when you will change your chain. I'm running a rear aluminum sprocket... 10K is about all I get out of it. If you have a steel one you should be able to push it a bit more... all depend what kind of riding you do. I have 5000 miles on this set and look fine for now.

15k still good . but to ck it pull on the chain at the rear sprocket if uou can pull it away from the sprocket 1/2 tooth , the change it out . if it fits tite your good to go

I think I'll change is cause the bike acts weired on the 3d gear on 44 miles an hour.

do you guys have any recomandations on chain and spracket ?

also forgive my ignorance. How do you know what size or type of chain do you need ?

I have heard that steal is better, ( thought they are all of steel ) .

520 O-Ring is my understanding of the size.
I think for "steel" they were talking of sprockets.
Everything I have read on the bike sounds like our bike only has aluminum sprockets available? Hope I am wrong on this.

with 66 hp on the bike.. should last between 15,000 and 20,000 miles.... when i regeared my bike i ran a alum rear sprocket and it lasted 15,000 miles.


now with 16,000 getting ready to replace everthing.
