Universal Gear Indicator

I am new driver, and bought a fz6r this month as my first bike. While driving, after a few shift ups and shift downs, I cant seem to remember what gear the bike is in. I would like to get a gear indicator but dont want to pay for the brand named products. I came across this $25 gear indicator on ebay, but not sure if it would work for 2013 FZ6R. Has anyone tried installing this? are there youtube videos specifically for how to do it for FZ6R?

Dude, I haven't bought and fitted this particular item but FWIW, the phrase "You get what you pay for" usually rings true.

There's no way this is going to be a 'plug n' play' affair with OEM connectors, you're gonna have to locate each of the required wires on the bike manually and patch into them.

But hey, it's on flea-bay, and it's only 25 bucks!!! Buy it, try it, let us know if it's good or not. TOFTT

Agree 100%! I have a gear indicator, but mine was somewhat plug and play. Had to splice into power and another wire (Can't remember off the top of my head). Pretty easy and nice to look down to know what gear I'm in. Not necessary, but nice.

There appear to be a few gear indicator install videos on the internet, but either the motorcycle is not FZ6R or there is no specific part number or link to where that specific gear indicator can be bought.

Is there a link to a video of FZ6R installation of a gear indicator that can be bought online?

You still have to splice a power source that is powered when bike is running only and crank sensor wire, the rest is plug and play. Very easy hookup once you find the wires.

[Final Impact]

This piggy back power tap is an effective way to get switched power without hacking up the bikes harness. It's cheap and fused using the same atm fuse type on the bike now.
It's running my fuel controller and data logger...

And if you have to tap, use a Posi-Tap... they do the least amount of damage!!!

I have installed the GIPro X last year or 2 yrs ago, I took some pics.. You definitely got to splice some wires or use tap connectors.

P.S. - the discussion on the link about gears slipping was a seperate issue and not related to the gear indicator. It was my clutch plates being worn out.

Nice, I should add one of these with all my connections off the battery. I use posi-taps for every splice (car, Motorcycle or truck).

if i remember correctly, The GiPro X instruction says tap the brown wire for the +12v.
But i think that was typo and it should'be been the Yellow Wire.

Maybe Scott remembers it better than me....

I believe you are correct about colors. I'd have to find the original post to be sure.
