I love the random comments people toss at me. I was once told, as I was running a cable through my wheels and around a light pole at work, that I shouldn't worry about it. Nobody would want to steal my bike, since it wasn't a Harley. I said, "Yeah, that's what I was thinking when I bought it!" LOL
One of my recent fav's was at a Starbucks. Harley dude and his chick pull in and are giving me looks, as I'm sitting outside in my gear enjoying my java and a smoke. I walk by to put my trash in the can, and tell them to "Be safe out there."
The dude says, "Is that a Buell?" I said "No, but I wish it was, I just can't afford to keep one going." I tell him his bike is really good looking and sounds awesome, and then I tell him why I ride a sportbike. There was a further 15 minutes of conversation where he invited me to hang out with him at a bike rally in NC. I didn't go, it's not my kind of scene. Still. Kind of cool to be invited.
The random comments are awesome. Some time ago I was way off the beaten path, and stopped at a little gas station for a coffee. A beat up pickup pulls up and an old women gets out of the driver side. She's cussing me up and down for owning a ricer, wearing a helmet, being exmilitary (my jacket has a big Army star on the back), taking up a parking space, and basically breathing the air.
She was literally cussing me out because the bike I was riding was not a Harley. The comment I remember best is "F*****g ricer's think they own the f*****g road, you should all go home and die!"
I was just standing there having a smoke and a coffee. I just looked at her and raised an eyebrow as she walked into the store, cussing all the way. Her husband got out of the passenger side and made small conversation as way of apology. I honestly felt sorry for the poor guy.
Today, I was grabbing a six at a local gas station and as I'm leaving the counter, the woman behind it says "By the way, that's a nice bike!"
I get that type of comment way more often. I don't go to biker bars. I avoid situations that would escalate in an unpleasant way. That being said, I enjoy both types of random comments.
Worse to me would be if I pulled up on a blah-blah and nobody noticed, because it was a blah-blah. My bike stands out. It gets comments, both good and bad. Much like her rider. Life is good.
