First ride report with my new Bell Vortex
Well... Helmet feel good on my head, still a little snug but once broken in it should be perfect. Now comparing to my AGV XR2, I'm not sold yet.
The better: Ventilation is awesome! By the time I hit 35 MPH I could tell a huge difference. The little air vent over the visor work great. Considering the visor is clear and doesn't block some of the light like my other visor who's light thin. Once with the proper visor, it's going to be perfect! The helmet also feel lighter... hard to tell.
Now the lest better: Loud! Compare to the XR2, very loud! I tried to close all the vent, still loud! If I turn my head, even louder!!! Riding I95 at 7K... I could barely hear the Viper (That loud!) But I didn't feel any helmet buffering. Thing that I could feel just a bit with the XR2. Maybe something to do with the round shape of the Bell compare with the XR2. The air reconnect differently behind the helmet... Looking at the Bell, there's a huge empty space to put huge ears! There's no padding at all where my ears are. (just a little cloth over the crushing material) and just behind that, it's the exhaust vent... Looking at the XR2... there's padding every where. So I will mod the Bell... never ending!
I just think that the empty space feel good on your ears because they don't get squeeze. But at the same time it's like a big speaker box or acoustic guitar... it amplify the sound. Well, maybe I'm wrong, but that's the most educated solution I can come up with. I'm sure ears plug will fix the problem... but let's give that a try...
