What type of lock do you use for your bike. I live in a apartment complex and don't have the opinion of parking it inside.. What in your opinion is better, U-lock, disc lock, cable, chain etc.... any advise would be helpful.. Thanks.

Personally, I use a disc lock and try to park where there a other bikes, when I'm parking in public. Otherwise, I park in a secure garage at work and my own garage at home. Here are some other threads where this topic has already been discussed to give you some ideas:

I have the Kryptonite Fahgettaboudit chain and lock. Pretty thick and heavy. So far so good.

I would suggest you get an alarm system, and I had a Kryptonite Lock as well. Get a none branded motorcycle cover too, so they might think it's a Harley. Then if they lift up the motorcycle cover, the alarm will activate then they have to cut the Kryptonite lock.

I simply use a Masterlock disc lock that I got from Advance Auto and a generic motorcycle cover. So far no issues. I also have a little storage room I can fit the bike into if I need to, like when I go out of town for a week.

I use a Zena XX14 which I got half price at the start of the year through a UK Bike paper. It's actually louder than the Meta alarm I have on the boke, fits under the seat in a Digi camera case and looks funky. It's sensitive enough to remind you it's there when you forget and try to ride off - it will go off as you take the bike off the side or centre stand so there is no chance of fecking your brake discs which = £££££'s as a mate did about 13 yrs ago on his DR350S.

I have this one:

Motorcycle security: XN series disc-lock alarms for motorcycles

I am satisfied with it. It fits under the seat so I can take it with me wherever I go. It has a cool blue led that will flash every few seconds and makes the device visible at night. It has a built in alarm that will go off if the bike is moved. Its sensivity will depend on the position it is attached to the disk.

You pay for what you get with this product. It's always a matter of personal preference. For me, a device that does not operate as I would expected it to, is basically money in the garbage.

No lock is a perfect solution. The best option as others have described is an alarm and cover. Someone can always cut chains / cables, but if there's an alarm to at least draw attention in the direction of the theives they are more likely to bail out, and leave the bike alone. Many of the cables and chains have been shown to be easy to cut. Even the supposed "high threat" level chains.
